OYO The Rowers Hotel is a budget hotel, with standardised amenities at the best value. It is located 8 miles from Beamish, the Living Museum of the North and 3 miles from St.
I booked this hotel for it's closeness to the Metro Shopping Centre and ease of travel from the centre of Newcastle. Both were perfect and as advertised. I did not arrive at the hotel until 7pm. In the Dark found it to look very derelict and not in use. There were no lights downstairs and the windows and curtains look very dirty and tatty. The front door was locked and it took a few attempts, at ringing the bell (which I could not hear if it was working or not) before someone finally come to the door. The gentleman who opened the door was very welcoming and friendly. The immediate inside of the hotel was very drab and dirty looking. However, when we went through another door to the small reception area it was dark (due to all the Wood Cladding) but very nice, clean and presentable. Upon confirming my booking, I was shown to my room. Gentleman even offered to carry case. My room was perfect (very warm on a cold December day). Very Clean, Bed made, very clean linen, Bathroom small but had everything needed (including free toiletries) and very clean. Ample Tea & Coffee in room. Everything I needed was, there and more, in my single room. Was actually a decent size for a single room. I actually had to turn heating down on 2nd night as too warm(a good thing). I only have 3 minor negatives. (1) mentioned above, appearance on arrival. (2) no-one on reception for any queries. there is a note with a number to call, but seemed a bit of a faffe to do. Would be nice to see a person. On morning left I just left key on reception. Felt strange. (3) On my 2nd evening was going to have a Bath/Shower but although had very hot water in sink nothing in bath/shower. Was late and couldn't be bothered to try and contact someone (my decision). Also thought may be cause late in evening. Tried again next morning but still no hot water in bath/shower. Plenty and very hot in sink. I needed to catch a train so didn't have time to try and get sorted. Didn't ruin my stay though. I had a room only stay. But would like to say I thought you could include breakfast. I could see nowhere to have breakfast. In fact the Conservatory that is shown in hotel pics (that I could see outside through fence) actually had dead leaves all over the floor. IN CONCLUSION. I would recommend this hotel and had a nice stay. BUT would say you get what you pay for. 15 Min walk from Train Station on well lite road. Easy to find. Room was fabulous but rest of building not in a good state. But for me, a place to sleep and rest it was perfect.
Lovely hotel no bar was open but they have a sister pub the Royal Hotel which is a lovely bar and hotel
