What's an fascinating and unusual quirky hotel to stay in. We loved it. The Bailbrook lodge has a wonderful faded elegance which is charming and comfortable. It is the antithesis of the chain hotels, where every room seems to be different and unique. It feels quiet and serene. The suites are large and spacious with views over the park. Do feel like you are staying in an original Edwardian mansion. Ok the carpets and plumbing are part of that faded retro feel. The best bit is the helpful staff. Vippin, the general manager, is extremely knowledgeable about Bath and the surrounding countryside , with a host of recommendations for great restaurants and things to see. In short, this polite and eloquent young man can't do enough for you. They are now serving breakfast which can be booked the night before. Be aware that this is a hotel where you let yourself into the front door and your own room. You do need the unique codes to get access. These are sent to you by email with text in the days before you arrive. This is firmly on the list of places to say next time we are in Bath.

I do agree that the decor of Bailbrook Lodge is tired, both in style and appearance. The carpets in the breakfast room and on the staircase have faded a great deal, and the carpet in my room was frayed at the edges, by the wall. The lighting in my room was very dim, unless all the lamps and the light above the sink was turned on. That said, Vipin was very welcoming and helpful! He was always available via a phone call when help was needed, and was always very amenable - even when I asked for him to warm my health eye mask in the kitchen microwave. I have no complaints about the breakfast! I also got to make use of the garden. :) It was just a shame that considering this used to be a Georgian villa, there are so many aspects of the appearance that are a far cry away from elegance and opulence! Would be nice if they arranged a refurb imminently, in view of how many people have noted that the decor does not match expectations for something at this price! The location was pretty good. If only the buses had been more reliable!
