If a business is good it gets five stars: It's hard running a hotel or a restaurant, a "half star drop" can wreck havoc for them. I always go into detail, flaws and pluses. Service here was good, solid, nothing over the top but do we really need that? The view is the best feature, shell out the extra money and go "Oceanview," it's more of the bay with the ocean in the distance but still beautiful. Rooms are clean and have everything you need but are an explosion of brown and worn, heavy furniture but...the view=amazing. Need a simple, non pretentious meal? Snug Harbor Bar if you drink (separate review), the staff also says Highway 101 Burger is good. If you are being a thrifty traveler, there is a grocery store two blocks north on 101 and the room has a fridge and microwave. Why is service four stars? Breakfast is the usual suspects: Bagels (thoughtfully in ziplock bags so others don't fumble with your food), cereal, fruit, yogurt, passable coffee, and a waffle machine. Nothing special or impressive, just enough to get you down the road, to the next town, the next hotel.... PS Bumping service up to five stars. Staff is great. I locked myself out and they were very gracious about it. If you're going through LC, this place is a good bet, within walking distance of the sea, restaurants, bars, and a grocery store.
I reserved the room thru Oyo reservation for 2 nights. I upgraded a bottom floor pet friendly room to a room of same but with a balcony. The room had 1 queen bed, which seems small, like a double, and it was hard and very uncomfortable. Didn't get any sleep at all, and we cut out trip to just one night and took the loss. Brandon, the hotel manager offered to move us to another ground floor room with a better bed, a king bed with a balcony also, but we still decided to leave. Pet area was small.
