13 Most Important Questions to Ask your Birthday Caterer

The lifeline for any event is undoubtedly the FOOD. Whether this is a matter of 200 or 25 guests, food is essential for every event. The happiness and satisfaction of your guests depend upon the quality of menu. Thus, if you are not sure how to choose a perfect caterer, then go through some of these questions that would help you in hiring the caterers that are best in this party business. You may even ask the birthday party venue about their in-house catering service and decide whether they would be perfect for your occasion or not.

  1. How much of choice do you provide in your menu?

This question is of utmost importance because variety is what your guests would be looking in your birthday menu. The traditional ones are of course popular enough, but kids, as well as youngsters today, feel the need to try out something new and exotic at a party.

So, ask your catering service to implement latest ideas for birthday catering and discuss the type of international cuisines that may prepare for you.

  1. Could you relocate at the chosen locations?

It might be possible that your chosen birthday party venue is devoid of any in-house catering service. In this case, you should definitely ask your birthday party caterer to migrate to your venue at the day of your party.

And if it is some outstation venue for your birthday party, then make it a point to send them beforehand to avoid any last minute scruples. Do ask them if they are going to charge you with some additional charges.

  1. Are there a Themed Menu on your list?

Themed parties are all in a rage. Thus, more worldly as well as enthusiastic guests might look out for themes in your meals too. Therefore, ask your catering service if they can draft up a themed menu.

Like, if your birthday girl has a Barbie theme, then you may conjure up some strawberry flavoured cupcakes, shakes or pastry cake for your guests.

Your daughter’s friends are surely going to get all googly eyed over the expanse of desserts before them.

  1. Will you be comfortable in working with my budget?

The options in catering are endless. So, you need to have a clear discussion with your catering service over how much every appetizer or drink is going to cost. Or is there the food item you desire, could be prepared on some minimal ingredient. Just make a head count of your guests and adjust the menu with the food expert at the birthday places.

  1. What can you do for guests with some health restrictions?

Nowadays, the menu list that is conjured up, contains special food items for diabetic, gluten-free or a simple vegan meal concerning some guests.

Make sure that your caterer can handle all this efficiently. You need to confirm whether he has any previous experience with such type of preparations or not.

  1. Where is the food prepared?

Sometimes, the caterers decide to prepare food on-site while using their or your kitchen but most of the time it is the “drop-off catering” service that you may pick up from their location or ask them for home delivery.

Your catering service will arrive with their food and will give some finishing touches to the food laid out.

  1. Can we Customize the Menu?

All catering services have some pre-defined menu for a first glance. But, you may even ask the caterer whether you could do some customization of the menu as per your style. It might be possible that you are against the type of drinks they are serving and want to include some particular ones. The food menu should be prepared with care when your guests list contains toddlers or kids. Do not use glassware as it might be risky enough to handle.

  1. When is the right time to Finalise the Menu?

Planning in advance is the right course of action. Thus, it would be helpful for you as well as your catering service to plan the menu one week in advance. It would help in avoiding any last minute crisis and you could alter any minute changes if required at a final moment.

  1. What are you going to do with the leftovers or if there is any Cleaning Crew?

There is always a huge amount of food left over after a party. Make it a point to ask your caterer on how they would be dealing with these leftover items. Moreover, the kids at a birthday party create a lot of mess with food and games. Ask them about their cleaning service and if there are additional charges for this.

  1. Which rentals do you include in your service?

It might be possible that your catering service does not include the glassware, silverware, paper plates, cups, napkins etc. within their all-inclusive meal menu. Do not skip this issue while you are planning the party menu with him. This will keep you apprised of the entire segregated budget and whether he is charging you in a nominal way or not.

  1. Do you have any previous recommendations?

It would be an ultimate disaster if you are kept unaware about the catering service till the day of your party. Keeping this in mind, do not forget to check out its reviews, years of experience as well as any previous clients who can give you exact feedback on its services or any flaws if it has.

  1. Do you serve alcoholic or non-alcoholic beverages in your party?

When this is an all adult party you would definitely want to have a mixture of both alcoholic as well as non-alcoholic beverages in your drinks’ list. If yes, then make sure that their bartenders are fully licensed and certified to serve alcohol.

  1. How many of your staff members are going to work in my party?

While you pull a full catering service at your home or backyard, ask him about the number of workers who are going to serve and who would be working in the kitchen.

Hindu Wedding Themes and Decoration Ideas

Indian weddings are diverse and the rituals are elaborate and versatile. No matter how advanced and modern the Indian youth has become, they treasure their traditional practices when it comes to some special occasions. A wedding is as special as it gets. Indians love following their customs on their wedding day. The Hindu wedding is the most popular types of marriage in India. Each type of wedding has its own traditional practices, ceremonies, and rituals.

Unity in diversity

Indian weddings show the best of how the country lives in harmony well most of the time, despite having people from all over the world crowding every major city. The whole hearted acceptance that the peaceful Indians perform, come to them naturally. Indians love diversity. What they love most is to have fun. The more, the merrier.

There are numerous dialects, religions, and traditions in India. Indian weddings of different castes are similar to each other but the rites and rituals with which they are performed tells a lot about the region and culture. There are different types of Hindu rituals depending on the state the bride and groom come from. There are different types of South Indian weddings, and different types of North Indian weddings. Let’s find out what is special about Indian weddings in general, despite all the differences.

Holding on to Traditions

The Indian wedding traditions which were being long followed by our earlier generations are still persistent in present day’s weddings. Times have changed. The wife no longer takes complete responsibility of the household and the husband is no longer the sole bread earner. The married Indian woman is no longer forced to wear sindoor and mangalsutra for the rest of her married life if she does not want to. Neither is she required to change her surname after marriage.

The Indian man gets to feel proud and not shame if his wife is a career woman. He does not shy away from taking care of his own children. He does not go without food if his wife is not at home. He knows how to cook, how to look good, how to have fun with his wife like best friends. The Indian mindset has come a long way from the ancient times.

However, some things are best left unchanged. That includes the traditional practices of a wedding. Many progressive Hindus live a totally secular life. But the wedding has to be a traditional Hindu one.

Hindu Weddings

Hindu weddings are fun. There are no restrictions on the food and drinks. There is a lot of fun and music. There is dance too if the family is up for it. Hindu wedding decorations comprise traditional marigold mandap canopies to modern themes. What makes Hindu weddings so awesome is that though all the traditions and rituals are followed, the decorations and food are all open to customisation. There are no rules. So there is a lot that you can do.

Hindu wedding themes are not limited to pictures of gods and goddesses. The music is not limited to ritualistic chants and prayer songs. A Hindu wedding can have Disney love story themes to Bollywood themes. Themes are not necessary though. Hindu weddings pick cues from every type of Indian wedding and even some from the west.

Flexibility

Hindu wedding rituals too are moulded to fit the necessities of the current times or to suit the wishes of the bride and groom in question. Most Hindu families in modern times are not rigid about rules. The only rule a lot of them care about is, the wedding has to be a grand affair and everything has to be perfect.

Many traditional Hindu weddings have rituals that span a week or more. But times have changed. No bride or groom gets that long vacation, even for their own wedding. Hindu weddings are therefore wrapped up into just two days, The wedding, and The Reception. The muhurat is chosen such that it is either on or near a weekend. That is the practical necessity of the times. The mehendi, sagaai, everything is squeezed into one day if needed.

Coming Together

Despite all this cramming up of ceremonies, things cannot go wrong, there cannot be a hint of the slightest imperfection. A wedding is a matter of pride. Everything has to be perfect. Everybody comes together to make perfection happen, the friends of the bride and groom, their cousins, all their relatives, their parents’ friends. Many of the guests are basically co hosts. This has been the case because hardly anybody has multiple siblings anymore. Families are getting smaller and ceremonies are getting more elaborate. Irrespective of whether you have hired the best event planners in town, you will need the watchful eyes and a helping hand from the most trusted relatives and friends. Everybody comes together to pull off a perfect wedding.

Wedding Essentials

Though a lot of things can be customised and a lot of things can be left out according to convenience, some things are essentials. Hindu weddings must have the wedding mandap well made. There must be a lot of colourful flowers adorning the mandap. There must be a lot of chiffon drapes to make the walls look all colourful. The canopies at the wedding gate and the gazebos near the beverage stalls are a must too. There must be a lot of red and pink in the decorations and golden is even more important.

Shehnai

The shehnai is a must as well. If there is no band party playing shehnai, because there is a better band that will play Bollywood or originals for real, or if there is a DJ that you are saving for, the shehnai has to come from a recording at least.

Flowers

A Hindu wedding has to have a lot of flowers. Although plants and more greenery is in, decorations in Hindu weddings are incomplete without marigold and roses.

Add flowers near the mandap, at the gate, at the doors of the various rooms, on the ceiling of the wedding hall. Go for a lot of drapes in satin.

The Colours

Hindu wedding decoration ideas are not difficult to find. Anything can work if you know how to implement the plan. There is no restriction on any style or type of decoration items. Just except the color black maybe. Many people still believe that black brings bad luck. White is worn to mourn at funerals but white with some gold embroidery is great to wear to Hindu weddings. Also, white is a great background colour to let all the colours in the foreground shine prominently. So feel free to use any colour except black. Make sure you use a lot of red, gold, yellow and silver. The wedding has to look happy and lavish at the same time.

Lights

Lighting is very important in any wedding. With Hindu weddings, yellow lights are more welcoming than any other colour. Yellow lights give the appearance of diyas. Multi coloured lights at the gate and on the outer walls of the building are a must. But inside, the lights have to be yellow and white because that will brighten up the things.

That will make the satin drapes visible. Put some lights at the dinner tables too so that everything is well lit. But put them inside lampshades so that it looks beautiful instead of annoying. Make sure you light up the pathway to the restroom or the garden in case of an open space wedding. Every nook and corner has to be well lit.

Food

While planning the decorations, keep in mind that there should be enough space to put food stalls and enough space for people to gather around and enjoy a snack. Weddings are all about the food. The decorations are there, and they are appreciated but the food steals the show. Few months after the wedding, the colour of the mandap and the flowers on it can be forgotten. But nobody will ever forget how the biryani or the pulao tasted. Nobody will forget how tender the mutton was. Everybody will appreciate all the vegetarian segment that was there, and all various kinds of salads that it had to offer. Nobody will forget the thoughtfulness that went into making sure that the vegetarians or the people on a diet get enough to fill their tummies with.

A Hindu wedding is a smooth blend of traditional practices, and fun modern activities. Hindu wedding decorations come with plenty of room for creativity. All you need is a squad to make things work and enough time to check out the venue and work out some Hindu wedding decoration ideas that are to be executed to beautify the entire venue for the wedding day. The drapes can be done a day earlier, the flowers are required fresh. There is a lot of work ahead. Good luck!

5 Interesting Indian Wedding Traditions

An Indian wedding cannot be defined by just one set of rituals or one vision. Indian wedding traditions and customs are diverse. Every different state has a different set of traditions and culture. Indian weddings can be simple, humble, and peacefully quiet. They can be a big fat pompous show of colours and riches. If we are to observe the various Indian wedding traditions, it is bound to get confusing. Subtle differences mark one custom from another, while some other traditions are totally different from the rest.

Foreigners take a deep interest in the traditional Indian wedding. But surprisingly enough, some of us Indians ourselves are not aware of the various types of Indian weddings. Some Indian wedding customs have stayed put from ages back while some have been incorporated from Western weddings, only recently. Despite the communal issues that surface due to politics, the Indian people are mostly very curious about different traditions and they like to pick up some customs from each other. This is why the Indian weddings have elaborate rituals that include the archaic traditions that are carried forward from forefather’s unknown, as well as new ones that are appreciated by many because of the thought that goes into them.

Here are some Indian wedding customs that are popular in their own regions and are slowly gaining popularity in other parts of the country.

  1. Bengali Wedding Traditions

Bengalis are progressive and Bengali girls and boys are quite a catch, to generalise of course. But the Bengali wedding traditions are still pretty old ones. They reflect the orthodox marriages of some generations past. For example, there is the ‘shubha drishti’, meaning something like the ‘holy meet’.

The Bengali bride enters hiding her face with betel leaves. The ‘saat paak’ in Bengali weddings don’t have the bride and groom encircling the agnee but the bride encircling the groom seven times. She has her face hidden through the seven circles. She is carried by four of her closest male family members or friends. At the end of the seven rounds, she steps down and stands in front of the groom, revealing her face so that the bride and the groom’s eyes can meet. This is ‘shubho drishti’.

Although every Bengali bride and groom knows each other before marriage, and most have been friends or in a relationship for quite a while, the tradition has stuck from times when this ‘shubho drishti’ was literally the first time the bride and the groom met each other in person. Strange it is. But this tradition sets the Bengali wedding apart from every other type of Indian wedding. The Bengali bride putting the betel leaves down and slowly looking up is the symbol of a typical Bengali wedding.

  1. Punjabi and Sikh Weddings

Punjabis and Sikhs are the most generous and enthusiastic Indians. Many people consider Punjabis and Sikhs to be the same people because the similar customs they follow and the area they live in. But there are subtle differences between Punjabis and Sikhs. Their traditions are similar, yet not the same. To generalise, they are both impulsive, fun loving, and warm hearted. So you can imagine what a Punjabi or Sikh wedding would be like, full of colours, lots of food, and a lot of dancing with innovative ideas for sangeet ceremony. But let’s take a look into the ceremonies and wedding rituals as well.

Punjabi wedding rituals begin with the bride’s maternal uncle gifting her the ominous churha. These are red and white bangles that signify the beginning of a wedding and mark the marital status of a woman, as married women wear them after the wedding as well. The Ghara Ghardoli ceremony follows. The bride and the groom are bathed in the holy water at the Gurudwara. All this takes place during the day because the garland exchange and final wedding rituals take place late in the evening.

Punjabi and Sikh weddings are long and stretch into the night. Sikh weddings happen during the day with the ardaas at the Gurudwara. The Punjabi wedding with the mantras and phere itself happens late at night, after the dinner. But there is not a tired soul, not a pair of droopy eyes. The enthusiasm of Punjabis and Sikhs are contagious. If you lack drive in your life, attend a Punjabi or Sikh wedding, or just visit a Sikh family. They are loving, and full of energy. Even if you are the quiet type, their energy is bound to rub off on you.

Some rituals of Punjabi and Sikh weddings are becoming popular in other types of Indian weddings too. Mehendi is already popular and as new event now a days Mehendi party are gracefully organized and has become quite the part of all Indian weddings, even the ones where it wasn’t traditionally a part. Roka, Varmala, Milni, are all originally Punjabi and Sikh wedding rituals.

  1. Gujarati Wedding Traditions

Gujratis are fun loving too. More than anything else, they are extravagant when it comes to any big ceremony. The Gujratis are the only ones whose enthusiasm come any close to that of Punjabis and Sikhs. They have this loud energy for weddings. There is a grandeur in Gujrati weddings because no matter how calculative they are about money in general when it comes to weddings, they splurge like it’s nobody’s business. Gujarati weddings are versatile in itself because there are many sub sects with a different set of rituals. Patels have a different set of rituals. The Naagars have some Brahmin rituals. Overall, a Gujarati wedding can be distinguished from other Indian weddings because there are some typical differences. A Gujarati mangal phera comprises just four phere instead of the usual seven in most other Indian wedding traditions. These four phere signify ‘Dharma’, ‘Artha’, ‘Kama’, and ‘Moksha’, the four pillars of a successful marriage according to Gujarati culture and belief. The Jaimaala in a Gujarati wedding is exchanged twice, instead of the usual just one time, or three times.

Some Gujarati weddings have the kanku kanya ritual. The bride is accepted with the vermillion being the only sign of marriage on her. She comes without any dowry, just as she is. This progressive ritual is typical to Naagar Brahmin Gujarati weddings. Gujratis are businesspeople and many marriages have their roots in business partnerships. But when it comes to the bride, she is given utmost importance, over any money or dowry. Or at least, so is the ritual.

  1. Tamil Weddings Traditions

Tamil weddings are the most elaborate. Yes, without a doubt, Tamil wedding rituals are the most elaborate. Some rituals are short while some are long but they are all essential. Even the modern Tamil weddings don’t skip any of the important rituals. They start with Panda Kaal Muhurtham and sumangali poojas to bless the wedding day and the married women at the wedding.

These rituals are followed by pallikai thellichal and naandi shrardham rituals. After all this, comes the engagement or Nichayathartham. A Ganesh pooja is mandatory at the beginning of the engagement. Then comes kumkum, chandan, and garlands, followed by the ring exchange .

Lagna pathirikai, mangala snaanam, Gauri pooja, Kashi yatra, pada pooja, and Oonjal follow. Then comes kanyadaan, muhurtham, and saptapadi to complete the wedding. The wedding itself is followed by three rituals, sammandhi maryathai, grihapravesh, and valeyadal. Tamil weddings seem to go on forever creating memories and exciting wedding stories. It brings out the seriousness Indian traditions are dealt with even in modern weddings.

  1. Maharashtrian Wedding Traditions

Maharashtrian weddings have elaborate rituals starting with the engagement. It is called ‘shakhar puda’. The bride is given a saree and some sweets as blessings from her new family to be. Kelvan and Haldi ceremonies take place at the bride’s home as well as at the groom’s home.

On the wedding day, the couple has a barrier of a silk shawl between them and the ‘mangalashtak’ is recited. There are quite a few rituals before tying the knot, one of the rituals being the bride and groom officially asking for their parents’ permission to do so. After this, the phere and the whole wedding process takes place. It all happens during the day.

After the wedding, it is time for Grihapravesh, which is typical to many Indian weddings. But in a Maharashtrian wedding, the bride and groom’s feet are washed with milk before they enter the bride’s new home. Maharashtrian wedding rituals are elaborate but the food and celebrations aren’t ignored. The food and hospitality the guests receive are bountiful.

These are some of the richest Indian wedding traditions as well as the commonest. They are versatile and elaborate, fun and serious. An Indian wedding has it all.

There are various types of Indian jewellery that are suitable for weddings that you can team up with the classic expensive types of gold jewellery.

Types of Wedding Jewellery

Here is a list of gorgeous jewellery types that the bride can proudly wear to her wedding. When going for a bridal collection, consider these types of Indian wedding jewellery to stand out beautifully as the prettiest bride. Mix and match some of these types to complement the bride’s skin tone, makeup, and the wedding attire.

  1. Kundan

This popular jewellery art from the Mughal era has its roots in Rajasthan and Delhi. This traditional gemstone art with elaborate glass stone designs held together with the molten form of purest gold mostly comes in heavy and chunky pieces.

One single necklace will be enough to steal the show. Go for a kundan set and you’ll have enough of bridal jewellery. You can team up kundan with jadau or modern gold jewellery. Even pearls will do if you want to cut out on the cost but thanks to kundan, nothing will look cheap for a wedding.

  1. Polki

Polki jewellery is quite similar to kundan but way more expensive. Polki is all about uncut natural diamonds. This jewellery type too is a traditional Mughal art. Polki is more on the expensive side because they are mostly diamonds. One signature piece of polki jewellery among other wedding jewellery will work all the magic you need on your D Day.

  1. Meenakari

Meenakari is the art of enamelling metal surfaces with various shapes like peacocks, leaves, flowers, or animals. This Rajasthani art was initially used in Mughal architecture. It was also used as a perfect finishing for the back side of kundan and polki jewellery. But today, Meenakari is done on regular gold, silver, or any other base. It reduces the cost without taking away from the traditional art. This is the most colourful form of Traditional Indian jewellery.

  1. Jadau

Jadau is a Rajasthani art from the Mughal era that involves kundan, polki, and Meenakari. The basic design is moulded, the shapes for the stones are engraved, the stones are then put into the engravings and then sealed into the pure gold base with gold foil. The stones are then enamelled. So, when you want kundan with meenakari, it is basically jadau you are asking for. Needless to say, this is for people who want to flaunt their wealth.

  1. Classic gold

Classic gold jewellery will never go out of style for weddings. Gold can never be too basic either. Get unique designs to make the pure gold stand out. Go for a balanced mix of chunky signature wedding jewellery and trendy pieces to adorn the bride with.

Gold is a symbol of prosperity. Pure gold is a must on weddings. Gold with intricate designs and cuts and without any differently coloured stones and embellishments is classic and the most traditional form to adorn the new Lakshmi of the house with.

  1. Temple jewellery

This is gold jewellery too. But the designs and style of temple jewellery originate in the Chola dynasty. This is South Indian gold jewellery that stands out from regular North Indian gold jewellery. The rich culture reflects through every design.

However, this does not mean that temple jewellery is unfit for modern weddings. The designs are beautiful and timeless. The intricate nakkashi upholds the tradition of an Indian wedding. The making charge of temple jewellery is huge. You should go for stone embellished temple jewellery to become the talk of the town right from your wedding day.

  1. Lac

Lac or lacquer jewellery finds its roots in Rajasthan. This is made from lac. Yes, the thick waxy resin from the female lac species is used in wedding jewellery.

This is the closest you could get to nature. Wearing the secretions of a bug. Yes, that sounds odd. But when you see lac jewellery, you will love the texture and the colours. You will love it more because that beauty is the work of tiny creatures. Lac jewellery is made after heavy processing of the lac resin. They mostly come in shades of red. Lac bangles are ominous in some cultures. It is mandatory for a married woman to wear lac bangles in many places in India.

  1. Pachchikam

Pachchikam jewellery originates in the Kutch. It is much like kundan but on silver. The silver used in pachchikam jewellery is very malleable and of the purest quality. It almost looks like platinum after processing. Glass stones and some precious gems are inserted into thin silver cases to reflect the light and shine all bright. Pachchikam jewellery is made rough and edgy to give a rustic feel to the make. If you want a unique appearance for your bridal look, go for this type of jewellery. Also, it is one of the most affordable forms of wedding jewellery.

  1. Thewa

Thewa is again a Mughal art form. It involves the fusion of 23 carat gold and colourful glass. Rajasthan is famous for Thewa art. There is lot of terracotta and some chemicals and oils involved in the process. Thewa art depicts Mughal history and the history of North Indian society. The processing time is long. The entire process of making thewa jewellery is elaborate and interesting. The result is beautiful. The pieces are brilliantly colourful and chunky. The base is usually black and the colours shine bright on the base. They are further detailed with intricate gold designs. A Thewa jewellery set in the right colour will amazingly complement the latest Indian bridal wedding dress.

  1. Kaasu Maalai

This style of wedding jewellery can never be misidentified. This traditional Indian gold jewellery is made in the form of strings of gold coins put together to make chunky pieces. Some of them are detailed with stones especially for bridal jewellery. This is traditional South Indian jewellery that is now catching on with the rest of the country as well. If you want to do something traditional, but different from the popular North Indian jewellery types this is a very good option. Also, it is light on your body despite having a wide area. So this jewellery will look extravagant, cost you less and be comfortable to wear throughout the wedding day.

  1. Filigree

This style is probably the most beautiful kind of jewellery because it fuses traditional and trendy, perfectly. All the meshwork on gold and silver and enamelled metal will give the bride a fairy tale look on her wedding. Filigree jewellery is delicate and brilliant.

The best thing about filigree jewellery, apart from the intricate designs, is the matt bright finish. Yes, that is paradoxical, and magical. The lustre of filigree jewellery is unique and totally different from a typical metallic smoothness.

  1. Navratna Jewellery

The name gives away the speciality of this type of jewellery. It is made of nine different types of precious stones. The navratna jewellery is not just a symbol of status and show of colours but it is also a lucky charm for weddings. You can go for an entire set of navratna jewellery, or go for different individual navratna jewellery pieces. Chunky pieces of precious stones in various colours is the best thing you can have when you are looking for bright accessories for your bridal attire.

These are the popular types of Indian wedding jewellery that are now in vogue in various cities across the country. They suit different budgets and different bridal looks. Go for the one that suits yours. You can get a mix of different types of Indian bridal jewellery as well.

Take your time and do what you like best. Think it through, plan out your bridal look before you go out to buy or order custom jewellery for a traditional big fat Indian wedding. These types of gold jewellery might not have been known to you before today. Now that you know the difference between each type, you will know what you want. Once you know which style suits you best, do not waste any time in getting them made from a reputed jewellery maker if you want it custom made.

I Was Born To Roam

Travelling has been my favourite thing since I was a kid.

The warmth of a new place, all those new faces, different cuisines and the serene view is something I cherish.

The excitement, as well as the fear of being on an all girls trip, is something obscure.

Since I have been born and brought up in the mountains, I had this urge to visit the most happening state of India, Goa, which stands 6th in the top 10 nightlife cities in the world in National Geographic Travel.

Day 1: Delhi – Goa

Headed towards the airport with a lot of excitement and a suitcase in my hand. I boarded my flight. My first stop was Bangalore airport as I had a connecting flight to Goa. Wandering a bit on the airport and then grabbed a quick snack before boarding the next flight.

Finally, after all the chaos of connecting flights, I reached my destination Goa.  Also, did I mention that I was with three of my girlfriends on this trip? We had pre-booked rooms in Arambol, North Goa. A taxi was already there to pick us up in which we covered around 45 km to reach Arambol. All washed up, we just decided to crash for the night.

Day 2: Arambol & Morjim

Woke up to the soothing sound of the waves of Arambol beach and the view was just beyond explanation. All geared up, we decided to visit the sweet water lake in Arambol but then dropped the idea. Instead, we decided to visit Morjim beach. We hired two scooty and just hit the road.

With the help of google maps, it was all easy to find the place. It is such a beautiful beach and has got so many restaurants which provide you sunbeds too. You just need to ask and it will be all ready for you. Cheering on bottles of beer, we just lay down and enjoyed our time there. Took some pictures and then headed back to Arambol. Arambol has got a huge market where you can find souvenirs to bring back home for your loved ones. There are quite a few shops to buy different kinds of stuff from, like slippers, bikinis, jewellery items, clothes etc.

Day 3: Palolem

Palolem is situated in South Goa. We had already reached the place on the previous night. You just need to hire a taxi and you shall reach your destination. South Goa is a beauty in itself. Also, the beaches over there have the most serene view.

Palolem beach has 2-3 islands which are accessible by boats. You can find the boats on the shore and ask them to take you to an island of your preference. You can also find cute dolphins in the sea. We were headed to the butterfly island. After clicking a bit of pictures, we were back at Palolem beach. You can find numerous of restaurants serving great food. We poured ourselves glasses of wine and hogged over some good food and just chilled.

Day 4: Cabo De Rama

My way to start a good day is with a cup of refreshing green tea. It was quite hot outside, so, we decided to be the lazy asses that we are and stayed indoors until evening. Around 5 in the evening, we headed to Cabo De Rama. Oh! I just can’t explain the beauty of this place. Make sure to visit this place for the best sunset view ever.

There is this restaurant over there which serves the best crepes with a perfect view. Just enjoy a good beer and some dainty seafood and calm your eyes with the best sunset view. We had our dinner next to Xalor beach. Also, do taste some of the Goan food too.

Day 5: Cavelossim

Started off with an early morning. We headed to a cruise which looked more like a cute little double deck boat, Cris Cruises. We had booked the package in which it included unlimited snacks, food, drinks and sight-seeing. I definitely loved the vibe of this cruise: happy and calm.

We saw some jellyfish, kingfish and other kinds of fish. We were served beer with good music. Garlic prawns for snacks and some sauteed fish with rice and bread. Also, dessert was served too. With this the day came to a happy end.

Day 6: Benaulim

The trip was coming to an end. As it was an all girls trip, so we had to shop a bit too. Also, girls needed to take back booze with them for their family and friends. Brought back some souvenirs and alcohol with us. Headed back to our place and packed our stuff and then, we left for the airport. It was time to move to the end of the journey. Also, not having a connecting flight back to Delhi felt nice.

It was definitely one of the best trips ever. This trip definitely started to make me want to explore more and more of places. Also, it’s made me a bit strong and I’m somewhere gathering the strength and courage to plan a solo trip in the near future.

Here’s a glimpse of my experience…

Of course one does not mean to say that Indian groom jewellery is a new concept. It is, in fact, a traditional concept. But many men gave up the traditions and went for a western look which is more of a minimalistic style. But that is why the entire attention shifted to the bride. She never gave away the chance to get all decked up for a once in a lifetime event according to the latest trends of bridal jewellery. It is about time the groom too reclaimed his wedding day.

Wedding Jewellery for Men

There are not many options for groom’s jewellery but the ones that are there are all unique. Here is a list of wedding jewelry for grooms. You will be surprised to look at the options.

  1. Kalgi/ Sarpech

Irrespective of whether or not the family tradition demands a turban for the groom, it is always a handsome thing to wear. Moreover, the turban is where you can put a kalgi or sarpech to flaunt.

You can go for the usual feather shape or trendier shapes. Choose a colorful one. Be bold enough to go for a big one. Don’t shy away from a little bling on your head on your wedding day.

  1. Jewelled Turban

The turban itself can be jewelled in addition to the kalgi. If you don’t want a kalgi, you must go for a turban lined with stones.Gold frilled turbans are in this year. Make sure the drape of the turban is fashionable. Try it out on your head before buying, to make sure it sits tight on your head despite all the weight of the extra jewels.

  1. Brooch

A brooch is a must have for a groom. No matter if you’re wearing a sherwani or a suit, or even a bandhgala style, a brooch will go with anything and everything.

Go for a diamond studded brooch if your suit or sherwani is dark colored like a sparkling white and gold brooch on a navy blue or royal blue suit. Make sure you wear it in the right place because the placement can either make you look hot or lousy.

  1. Sword

Okay, this one is a little extra. And not every groom would like to flaunt a sword art their wedding. But if it is a theme wedding, or if you are a true Rajput, don’t miss out. Choose one with a lovely finish. Make sure it isn’t sharp for real. You don’t want your own sword cutting into your wedding suit. Learn a few moves, at least the ones involving smoothly putting it back into the case hanging from your kamarband. Complete the look with a dedicated moustache and beard. Otherwise, the sword might look out of place.

  1. Cuff Links

This one is again, a must have. No matter what other jewellery you are wearing, a set of cufflinks will never be too much. Don’t make the mistake of going for tiny cufflinks. Be bold enough to go for a strikingly sparkly set of cufflinks.

It’s best if it is diamonds. But that’s not necessary. As long as the color of the cufflinks stand out on your suit, good. Don’t go for ridiculously chunky pieces either. Find your balance.

  1. Haar

You will need a lot of confidence to pull this one off. A pearl or gold necklace does not look out of place at all on a groom on his wedding day. Especially if the suit he’s wearing is mostly plain without too many colors. Balance the sober suit with the bling of a thick necklace. Make sure your necklace is multi layered. No matter how long the necklace is, a single layer will look odd on a man.

  1. Bracelet

Though your wrist will be covered with the sleeve of the wonderful wedding suit, it does not harm to flaunt a beautiful bracelet. The masculinity of a man’s wrist is enhanced when it’s adorned with a thick gold bracelet. Let the bracelet be bold and chunky with no designs, or with a unique cut. But leave it simple and unstudded to maintain a rugged look. Go for a plain gold one without intricate designs if the designs on your sherwani are already elaborate.

  1. Shoes

The groom’s shoes are an iconic symbol of an Indian wedding. Your mischievous little new sisters in law will want to steal your shoes. Give them something worth all the trouble.

Dangle a pair of beautiful jewelled shoes under their nose so that they waste some time appreciating the beauty of the shoes while your friends hatch a plan to steal them back. Flaunt your shoes when you wear them. Take a full length photograph just for the shoes.

  1. Watch

If you’re not the guy who wears a bracelet, wear a signature branded watch. Watches deserve more attention in general than the current generations are giving them. And when it is your wedding day, go for a bejewelled watch that will steal the show. You can go for a fully gold watch or gold plated one. You could go for a silver one as well. You can also go for a strong metal with colourful studs. If you want to be extra, go for the classic diamond studded watch.

  1. Bejewelled Sherwani

If you don’t want to wear too many pieces of jewellery, stand out as the groom in a studded wedding outfit. Wear a dazzling sherwanis according to the latest groom dresses trends with gold embroidery and some gems all over it. You can of course wear this jewelled sherwani with all the other accessories if you please. You can go for a white sherwani with white stones on it. Or you could go for a contrasting affair with colourful stones on a dark blue or black sherwani. Blue and green stones on brown look perfect too.

Choose wisely according to the colours of your wedding outfit and your stature. Go for mostly chunky jewellery. If you have piercings, don’t shy away from sporting a stud on your ear. Wearing jewellery is a once in a lifetime opportunity for men. At least, so much jewellery all at the same time! That’s not something you’re gonna get to do much often. So, choose groom jewellery according to your personal taste and flaunt it all on your wedding day.

Go all in

It doesn’t matter if the bride and groom are modern youngsters who usually keep it minimal and trendy. It doesn’t matter if they are shy and do not want to flaunt too much. When it is a wedding, you go all in. Go for lavish jewellery for brides. Look around all over the city for the best bridal jewellery. Select smart jewellery for the groom as well. A wedding is a time when everything looks good all decked up. Everything should have a little bling on it.

If the bride and groom are people who like all that glitters, you are in luck. You don’t have to waste any time coaxing them into trying out different jewellery. You won’t have a hard time finding out what they like. They will cooperate and be enthusiastic about their own jewellery for the D day. Pick out the bride’s attire and groom dresses for all the wedding ceremonies well beforehand so that you can pick out matching jewellery for them.

Stick to your Budget

Although a wedding is a lavish deal and about a lot of flaunting and status, make sure you don’t bite off more than you can chew. Stick to your budget for the bridal jewellery and plan out the entire ceremony, all the days, according to a budget that your finances will be comfortable with.

Plan your Finances

It is advisable to save for your child’s wedding at least a few years ahead. You can totally go for mutual funds or have a huge fixed deposit for the wedding alone. If you plan the finances right, you won’t have to worry about the cost when the time comes.

About the jewellery, do not leave everything for the last moment. Buy the chunky jewellery when the best gold store in town is on sale. Find some pieces of jewellery that can work well as bridal jewellery but are currently on a 10% discount on the make. Buy enough gold and diamonds when the market price of gold drops.

We got enough such chances last year. But look out for more opportunities when the price of gold hits the lower marks. When you find that happening, don’t wait for the price to go further down. Don’t be too greedy. Wait till the right time, go take your daughter or son out on bridal jewellery shopping the moment the prices drop.

List of Bridal Jewellery

When you are shopping in a hurry because there is a Dhanteras sale going on or because the price of gold dropped, you might not be thinking clearly about the necessary items of jewellery. There will be numerous distractions like what suddenly catches your eyes or what a salesperson is trying to make you buy.

You might be rich enough to not care about a sale. But you will have a lot going on with a big fat wedding coming. There are so many things to take care of. So many things to arrange. Admit it or not, you will be a little stressed out.

This is why you need to have a list of necessary items ready before you set out for the bridal jewellery shopping. Here is a list of some essential bridal jewellery that must be on the bride on the wedding day.

  1. Maang Teeka

God knows why the trend of the maang teeka is going out of fashion. It used to be a necessary item for the bride traditionally speaking. In many Indian cultures, the maang teeka was just as important as the mangalsutra. It looks beautiful and fills up the bride’s head even before she has the vermillion on.

The maang teeka can be made of gold, silver, or custom studded with precious stones including diamonds. It can have stones that match the attire of the bride. The placement of the maang teeka is exactly where the vermillion goes. So, to let the vermillion show, you can style the hair with a side partition so the maang teeka can sit diagonally and let the red vermillion be visible in its full glory.

  1. Mangalsutra

The mangalsutra is an absolute necessity for Indian weddings. It is an important symbol of a married life. Many married women still wear their mangalsutras every day of their married life. Many women do not believe in such tell-tale signs of the marital status anymore. But on the wedding day, the mangalsutra is a must. Get a generously studded gold mangalsutra that is fat enough to make its presence felt behind the signature necklace that will be on the bride. If the bride will be wearing the mangalsutra on her daily life to follow, get another smaller one that is not too heavy on the gold. It is not wise to wear something too expensive on a day-to-day basis. Women don’t sit at home all day anymore. Her safety is important. Let her wear the chunky one for the wedding and a few days after. Let her switch to a humbler one when she goes back to her regular life.

  1. Baajubandh/ Armlet

The armlet gives an ancient traditional feel.  It is called vanki in South Indian weddings. It is not a part of modern jewellery anymore. But a bride’s arms must not look empty.

If she is not wearing a blouse or choli that covers her entire arm in a designer fabric, let the blouse be a sleeveless and short sleeved one so that she can flaunt a marvellous baajubandh on each of her arms or just one arm.

  1. Kamarbandh

This is not an absolute necessary item but it can work wonders with lehengas with a short choli or a wedding saree with a short blouse. This is an item that will add to the beauty of the wedding dress and give an illusion of layers. You can give the bride a set of studded keys to a new vault so that she looks like the perfect homemaker or boss wife she is going to be.

  1. Nath

The nath is again kind of essential. Not in a way that the absence of a nath will offend the traditions or anything. India has come far away from all that. But it is essential how all the other wedding jewelleries are essential. It completes the bridal look. It looks beautiful as it goes up into the hair of the bride and hides behind the veil. It gives the bride’s face the perfect bridal look. Also, if you are not the bride, it is recommended to not wear a nath to someone else’s wedding. The nath is typically bridal wear.

  1. Anklet

The anklet is hardly ever visible under all the layers of the wedding dress, but in a few moments that it does peep through, it completes the bridal look. Make sure the bride is wearing latest mehendi design on her feet too so that there is enough excuse to flaunt the anklets. Let the anklets be silver or white gold because white and silver look beautiful on the brown mehendi. Do not cancel on anklets because when the feet are visible, no matter for how short a time, they will look too empty for a bride’s feet without them.

  1. Toe Rings

The toe ring, or metti in South Indian weddings, is also symbol of a married life in many parts of the country. Whether you are from those parts or not, does not matter. A toe ring for each middle toe looks good. You could have two toe rings for one foot and one for the other foot.

This makes things look less obvious. It gives a variety to the jewellery. Also, make sure all the toe rings aren’t made of the same material. If one is gold, let the other one be silver. Toe rings are fun and you can wear them anytime. So buy some and wear some of them for the wedding.

  1. Traditional Treasures

Do not forget to carry on your body, the jewellery the elders gave as a blessing. It could be your family heirloom in the form of a chunky necklace, or a simple set of earrings your grandparents gifted you for your second or third piercings.

These are the jewellery for brides that will complete her bridal look teamed with a beautiful bridal dress, makeup and hairdo. With this list, you can go bridal shopping with your princess.
