Yes, I’ve been to Goa countless times over my rather short life till now and I’ve extensively covered all the touristy things that most of you already know, both in North and South Goa. However, now when I visit Goa, it is North Goa that I incline more towards. I think North Goa absolutely rocks and I understood even more on a recent trip when it started off amazingly! OYO Rooms helped me book a room online at half price (even the wallet likes it!). After getting a chance to enjoy my vacation at half price, I dived straight into my favorite things to do in North Goa.
Here’s why North Goa absolutely rocks-
Keri/Querim Beach touched my soul
I had an epiphany on the somewhat secluded and pristine Keri/Querim Beach. Why, you may ask, did I choose this beach? Well, I’ve been to Calangute, Candolim, Baga, et al. These are popular but hugely crowded beaches that I no longer love that much. This beach brought me closer to the real soul of Goa and so was the wonderful drive to Keri from Arambol. We clicked several pictures along the beautiful route which is a must-try for anyone coming here! I loved the Ajoba temple at the entrance to Keri Beach. There is a running mystery about a tunnel through the cliffs which traverses to the other side but we didn’t find it! The icing on the cake was the ferry ride to the Fort Tiracol/Terekhol which has views to die for!

Morjim Beach ensured total relaxation!
This is North Goa’s cleanest beach. I testify to the fact! The triangular beach has waves coming neatly at you from two different ways. Kite surfing is popular on this beach and I just love the dedicated nesting zone for Olive Riddley turtles! I enjoyed swimming here and walking through the Siolem village that is straight out of a novel with its greenery and lip-smacking fish curry sold at local restaurants.
Fort Aguada is where I got my mojo back
Looking for a spot that inspires confidence, awe and wonder? Fort Aguada is North Goa’s crown jewel for sure! I enjoyed my visit immensely and the lighthouse view is something else indeed! I did not have to shell out any entry fee for sampling the incredible view that I simply cannot describe in a few words!
I tried my luck (without luck!) at the casinos!
If, like me, you’re the sort who will enjoy a casual game of poker or teen patti, North Goa has some of the best casinos available. Truly, this is India’s Las Vegas and I tried my luck unsuccessfully at the Casino Palm on the Calangute Beach. Yes, I didn’t win much but the experience was out of the world. Some of my friends visited MV Caravela as I heard and I’ve put it on my to-do list for the next Goa jaunt. This is an offshore casino on the Mandovi Beach where you can savour the evening cruise with tempting food and gamble at the same time.

I shopped like crazy at North Goa
North Goa is for those shoppers (like me) who enjoy quaint and charming things. The Anjuna Market, was of course, a big attraction for me since I picked up a charming beach shirt and other apparel at dirt cheap prices! I loved going to the Mapusa Market to pick up some fish and meat for a bout of experimental cooking along with some more clothes (we can never really have enough can we?). In fact, if you’re on the lookout for really affordable wine, you’ll get it here! Bicholim is where I interacted with some really skilled potters and picked up a few of their exquisite creations for my friends and family members.
The Grande Island Tour was magnificent
Adventure junkies should certainly go on the Grande Island trip! I got picked up from Panjim and went on the boat ride. All necessary safety equipment is available and the actual trip starts from Dona Paula’s Hawai Beach. While sipping on my soft drink and munching on delectable nibbles, I kept looking out for dolphins and nearly spilled my drink overboard when I did see them! After all that excitement, I went snorkeling near Grande Island and it was also a superb experience. The Hansa Beach was another treat where I lazed around for a bit and then we group tourists played a game of football to whet our appetite for the sumptuous lunch that followed.
