Planning a trip to Goa can have all sorts of reasons. But one of the main ones is to escape the drudgery of everyday life and the struggles of the big city. What better way is there to do this than to live in your own Goan home, with a pool just below the apartment, and in an area where you will never get stuck in traffic?

This apartment has been designed keeping the traditions of Goa in mind. There are pops of colour around the house, and the decor is predominantly Portuguese. And one has no choice except to let go off all tension and worries in a home that exudes relaxation in every corner.

LIE BACK, RELAX, DO NOTHING

You deserve to do nothing on a break from your hectic lifestyle. Enter the house and you’ll instantly feel the cool, airy vibe of a Portuguese home. The living room furniture is typically Portuguese and will draw you in for a Goan siesta in the middle of the day.

Standing out as a pop of colour in a simple background, the coffee table adds to the Portuguese vibe of the house.

“I wanted the house to look clean and simple with colour and typically Goan elements standing out in some areas,” Jannat, the designer of this apartment, says. “Everyone who visits Goa loves to experience everything about it which is why I wanted to put Goan furniture in the house. The fish-shaped teak sofa set in the living room is around 20-25 years old. We refurbished it and used it here to add a touch of old Goa.”

BRINGING GOA INTO YOUR HOME

Apart from the furniture and the walls, there are small elements around the house which will remind you of what Goa is all about. In the living room, you will see three frames on the wall and they’re as Goan as it gets.

“One of the frames has traditional Goan tiles,” Jannat explains. “The other two are by artist Mario Miranda who is a living legend around here. Both these frames not only add colour to the house, they are conversation starters and a way to discover art in Goa.”

DINING IN YOUR OWN GOAN CORNER

While it’s very much a part of the living room, the dining area has its own corner. The walls in this part of the house have a distinct colour which makes it look like a separate area without being closed off.

Like the living room furniture, the dining set too brings a part of old Goa into this apartment. “The dining chairs are typically Portuguese,” Jannat says. “They were bought locally and refurbished, and the dining table was made from scratch to match the chairs.”

A VIEW OF THE POOL

The living room balcony faces the pool and offers a view that you will really miss when you leave Goa. Take your morning coffee to the balcony and relish the serene view of the pool. If you’re tempted enough, go downstairs and jump into the pool in the morning to work up an appetite for breakfast.

THE SUNNY BEDROOMS

You won’t be deprived of the sun anywhere in this house. And the bedrooms light up because of the sun all day long. If you’re the kind who likes to wake up with the soothing rays of the sun on your face, this is the perfect house for you. But if you don’t like that, we also have blackout curtains which will keep the sun out until you’re ready to face the day.

The bedrooms are more colourful than the rest of the house. With brightly coloured accent walls and contrasting furniture, the rooms will instantly cheer up the dullest day.

“The high ceilings and the amount of glorious sun this house gets attracted me the most to this property,” Jannat says. “The house faces the swimming pool so you also get a really soothing view from the balcony.

Both bedrooms have their own balconies, which makes sure that all occupants get their own spacious corners if they want to spend some time alone.

ENJOY THE PEACE AND QUIET

Far from the madness of North Goa, Siolim has its own corners which are quaint and peaceful. Manila Bar & Restaurant is only 210 metres away from this complex, and Amancio, known for its authentic Goan food, is about 1.4 kilometres away.

One of the best beaches in Goa — Morjim — is about 20 minutes away by car. The serenity of this beach and the dreamy sunsets make the drive completely worth it. But if it’s a beautiful sunset you’re after, you have an option which is slightly closer. The picture-perfect Sunset Uddo Beach is about 12 minutes away by car. Vagator Beach, famous for hosting several events especially during the tourist season, is about 9 kilometres away so you’re not too far from all the action.
