Vacationing in Goa is a wonderful, enviable thing. But vacationing in Goa while living in a creatively designed home, close to the beach, is even better. Only a few minutes away from the main road of Candolim, OYO Home 9365 Duplex 3 BHK Calangute North Goa is a joy for anyone who loves the fresh sea breeze and being surrounded by greenery. From the owner’s love for the beach and exotic plants, to the quaint Portuguese touches throughout the house, Emerald is a house that has a tale to tell in every corner.
A DESIGN VICTORY
Redesigning this home was an uphill task for our interior designers. The house, bought in the 1980s, had all the problems that come with old construction because of which the house remained locked for long periods. Seepage, among others, would be a constant issue during the monsoon.
However, with skilled work and creative thinking, our designers and vendors were able to overcome these problems with minimum expense and no breakage. Now, one can’t see any evidence of the problems that plagued this house, and the only things that catch your eye are the intricate design details all over the house.
CARVING A GEM
Have a look at some of the design elements that make this OYO Home truly special.
A TINY PIECE OF PORTUGAL IN GOA
Each room has a different kind of design and offers a different experience for our guests.
As you enter the house, one of the first things to catch your attention will be the vintage Portuguese charm which is an essential part of Goan tradition. From the lamp shades to the reading (or napping) corner next to the stairs, the Portuguese touch is unmissable.
CATCH UP ON OLD TIMES
The living room has ample space for you and your friends to enjoy a game of cards or chess, gossip about old times, or watch a movie together. You can even set up your own temporary bar in the living room and listen to music in the background as you catch up on everything you’ve missed over the years.
GORGEOUS VIEWS ALL AROUND
The balcony doors in the living room open up to reveal a gorgeous view of coconut trees and a spacious area where you can enjoy a steaming hot cup of morning coffee or a chilled drink in the evening.
ATTENTION, BEACH BUMS!
The bedroom downstairs has been designed for true beach lovers. It has been decorated in airy tones and never lets you forget how close the sea is to you. Mood lighting with shells adds to the laidback beach vibe in this room. This room also has a balcony and windows, both of which offer fantastic views. Unlike rooms that are unnecessarily large, anyone standing in the balcony will not feel separated from the conversation inside. It’s a great spot to feel the cool Goan air on a relaxed evening.
AN ODE TO THE GOAN SUNSET
As you go up the stairs, you’ll notice a colourful wall on the side. We call this the Sunset Wall. With all the colours of the sunset right there in your home, who wouldn’t want to take a couple of selfies with it?
CHILL, DRINK, DO YOGA!
Moving past the wall, you’ll see a door which leads to a terrace. If you’re with a group of friends but still want a few minutes to yourself, sit here in this spacious terrace, admire the thick greenery surrounding you, or pick up a long forgotten book.
This terrace is also a great place for yoga enthusiasts to lay out their mats and get their workout for the day. It’s also an ideal spot for hesitant beginners. So get your friends to join in for a quick session of yoga and fill your lungs with the clean air.
SO MANY STORIES TO TELL!
The bedrooms upstairs also have their own themes. One of the bedrooms has a ‘Bombay to Goa’ theme because the owner of the house moved from Mumbai to Goa in the 1980s. From the hand drawings depicting the skyline of Mumbai to the posters on the wall, this room is ideal for those who want a tiny part of the big city in Goa.
The balcony in this room is different from the others. It has been closed in with windows and has been made into a cozy little corner. The comfortable cushions and windows make this the perfect area for anyone who wants to admire the view and feel like a part of it all but from the comfort of an airconditioned room. This is also a wonderful spot for the creative minds to write, think, or draw, and come up with their own masterpiece.
The second bedroom upstairs is perfect for those who love being one with nature. The pictures on the wall in this room are of the exotic plants from the owner’s garden, and the freehand drawings in this room are also specific to the theme of the room.
The balcony in this room has a particularly special feature. If you stand in the balcony at the right time of the day, you can see the sunrise on one side and the sunset on the other side. And you can’t miss it. Beautiful Portuguese-style signs tell you exactly where to look during sunrise and sunset to catch an unforgettable view.
PICTURE PERFECT
One of the most stunning aspects of this house is the fact that all the windows and balconies form a picture perfect frame. The coconut trees which surround the house make for gorgeous views throughout the day which can be seen from several spots in the house. This abundance of windows and balconies also ensures that the house is well ventilated and has a lovely breeze blowing in through the day.
COOK UP A STORM
Since this is a home, and not a hotel, you can also cook your own meals rather than being dependent on someone else. You know what you like best, so stock up and get cooking. But don’t miss out on feeling like a true Goan. Look up a couple of traditional Goan recipes and try your own version of them.
You never know, you may want to make this your permanent home.
Emerald isn’t a hotel, and that gives you all the privacy and time you need with your family or friends. It’s the perfect blend of different tastes for a group of friends or a family travelling together. So share a home with your loved ones on your next holiday to Goa, and make sure that they go back with great memories of a wonderfully unique trip.
