Located 6 km upstream from the Bheemeshwari Fishing Camp, this remote place in Karnataka is perfect for experiencing the wilderness at its best. Go for some serious birdwatching to see birds like a grey-headed fishing eagle, spot-billed duck, small pied kingfisher, black-bellied river tern, osprey, pied crested cuckoo and many more flocking around. 5. Galibore
Living at Galibore equals a real jungle stay. It’s also the place to spot over 230 species of birds including the Fish eagles, green pigeons, kingfishers, Owls etc.
Activities like Coracle ride, nature walks, guided treks and rafting appeal to the outdoors and there is also night safari to take the adventure to the next level. For a laid-back weekend, you could lie back on a hammock and soak in the natural views.

6. Sangama and Mekedatu
These two places are located just 4 km apart and are mostly covered in a combined visit.
The 150 meters wide Kaveri river meets Arakavathi at Sangama. The river is well-fed in monsoons and a Coracle ride is the best way to enjoy the place. There is also a KSTDC Canteen for snacks & lunch. After crossing the river, you can take a bus to reach Mekedatu. Here, the river narrows down to a width of 20 feet flowing ferociously into the deep, rocky gorges.
Along the way, you can also visit Trimurthy temple on Bangalore Kanakapura highway and take a 10 km diversion before Sangama to see Chunchi falls.
Traveller Tip: No transportation is available after 5:30 PM. So, take a private vehicle or plan accordingly.

7. Kopatty Hills
Located in the Coorg district of Karnataka, Kopatty Hills are known for their greenery and natural beauty. Perched at the height of 1,375 metres, the vantage point offers sweeping views of the Erullivana valley. A 14 km-long route begins at the meeting point of Cherambane – Bhagamandala State Highway. Along with this trek, damp passages and dense forests suddenly spill out onto alpine meadows, carpeted in soft green grass and wildflowers. On the way, one crosses small mountain streams and abandoned houses to enter the flat table stretch of Mandalpatti that overlooks the Erullivana valley. Finally, after a ten-minute climb, one reaches the peak from where the panoramic view of the Western Ghats makes you forget all the exhaustion.
Traveller Tip: After the trek, you can head to Triveni Sangam located in the town of Bhagamnadala for a refreshing dip in its holy waters.

8. Tadiandamol Trek, Coorg
Tadiandamol Peak is the highest in Coorg with a stunning green expanse hosting a thriving population of wildlife and rich flora. A 15km trek through the vibrant Shola forest will take you to the peak at an elevation of 1,748m.
The Kakkabe village serves as the base for the hike, with the aroma of coffee filling the air. The route begins with a curved road to the Nalakand Palace merging into a narrow trail that takes trekkers through dense jungles and several streams. Once you hit the fag end of the trail, a tiny clearing and incredible views of the surrounding hills lay waiting, with flowers blooming on either side. Sit on the ridge, take in the sights, the sounds, the smells of this spectacular vista. The peak’s crown is a good place to sack out for a bit or walk along for fun.

9. Kumara Parvatha Trek, Coorg
At 1,712m, Kumara Parvatha is the second highest peak in Coorg. Being a part of the Pushpagiri range of the Western Ghats, it is immensely popular for its thick jungles. The 20km trek has to be done via a scenic route replete with flora and fauna. The climb has varying degrees of ascents and descents that pose a challenge even to the most avid trekkers. The trails are flanked by towering woods and there are signboards at short distances to ensure that trekkers stay on route. Towards the end of the trek, the dense forest cover gradually opens out to reveal a plateau and suddenly you realize that you are at the point you had set out to reach – the peak of the majestic hill. The summit of this mountain is not a cliche sight – a sharp rocky edge looking like a pillar, rather this peak is a serene flatland with a stunning view of the surrounding landscape.

10. Ballalarayana Durga Fort
In the unexplored part of Chikmagalur in Karnataka, this fort is situated on a hill-top at an elevation of 1524 mt. It is known to have been there since the heydays of Hoysala Empire, built by the rulers in the 12th century. Overlooking the town of Sunkasaale, the structure is now in ruins, holding significance as a spot from where beautiful sunsets can be seen. An easy hike can be undertaken to reach the location of the fort.
The trek starts at Mundaje and goes onto the Bandaje Arbi, a popular site for setting up tents and camping overnight. From here, you can further proceed to reach the fort encompassed by a vast grassland clothed in various shades of green.

11. Grover Vineyard
