Our recent stay at this hotel was truly lovely. The room was spacious, spotlessly clean, and offered stunning panoramic views of the local area. The bed, pillows, and bedding were exceptionally comfortable — my partner and I had one of the best night’s sleep we’ve had in a long time, which is no small thing! That said, there were a few minor details that didn’t quite meet the expectations of a hotel marketed as “luxury”: - The front-of-house staff, who are the face of the business, came across as rather unwelcoming — a simple smile would have made a big difference. - There were no complimentary biscuits in the room — a small touch, but one that guests often appreciate. - The stairwells were quite unsightly. While I assume they’re not typically seen by guests, the lifts were out of order, so we had little choice. - There was an additional charge of £10 to use the swimming and hot tub facilities. We didn’t plan to use them, but charging extra felt a little odd, again, for a luxury hotel. These were the only minor drawbacks we encountered. Overall, the hotel itself is lovely — and while the location may not be to everyone’s taste, we had no issue with it at all. After all, you can’t pick up a hotel and move it — and for us, it was just grand!
I believe the Mercure offers fantastic value for what you pay. Its central location is a big plus, and having underground parking is very convenient. The hotel features its own spa, which is a lovely addition. We stayed on the 15th floor, and the views of Cardiff were absolutely stunning. Our room was spacious and impeccably clean, and the bed was incredibly comfortable. The temperature in the room was just right, not too hot like some hotel rooms can be. The staff were wonderful—friendly, polite, and extremely helpful. I needed to change my spa treatment time, and the team was more than accommodating. I enjoyed a back treatment that was superb, and the spa itself felt like a true sanctuary. Although we didn’t dine at the restaurant this time, we did enjoy a drink at the bar. I was really impressed with the interior design; it created a lovely, relaxing vibe. I will certainly be making a reservation here for my next visit to Cardiff.
