Hotel OYO 91839 is a budget hotel that is centrally located and offers the best value for money. The hotel has standardised amenities and is within walking distance of attractions like Mesjid Raya Sultan Riau, Balai Adat Melayu Pulau Penyengat, and more.
Stayed at this accommodation twice in 2024 and 2025. Its located right in the central of pulau penyengat surrounded by locals house. You can see the historical islamic mosque across the street. Near to the jetty for your pong-pong trip, to and fro tanjung pinang mainland. Ojek (electric 3 wheels motorcycle taxi for hired) to moved around if you dont have driving lic to rent or borrow a bike or not keen to walk around). They are affordable. Theres few street food stalls few steps away near the accommodation. Few minimart (if you need to buy tidbits and drinks for munchies). Few eateries around the run by families living around the island (more choice to choose for our picky taste bud). An amphitheatre where kids play around infront (at least its not too quiet). Historical place, monuments, buildings, resting place of royals (royals and locals graves), museum and also not to forget the friendly locals. Since i have relative here, im able to borrow their 110cc scooter and venture out by myself (Not advisable to venture out past midnight cos not all places are well lit). Even though the road are not governed by traffic light and road marking. If you have the chance to rent or borrow a scooter. Ride slowly and carefully. Cos nobody wants an accident, respect the slow speed and space between yourself and the locals motorcycles while on the move. No harm giving way to others. Take note, place are abit rundown. Theres no toilet bowl (you have to squat when clearing your tummy ache), those with bad knees like me, we have to improvised. No water heater (cold shower daily) but comes with air-con. Since the mosque are so near, i really appreciate the azan (prayer calling thru the speaker system). Twice i stayed there, the imam who did the azan, his voice are so soothing to hear even though im not a muslim. Please be aware, muslim laws are strictly abide here. No alcohol and non-halal food allowed on the island itself. This is to respect their historical muslim culture. Those un-married couples are not allowed to stay together in a room unless you can show them your marriage certificates.
