The Baruya beach is located in the Srikakulam district and it is right at the point where the mighty Mahendra Tanaya River meets the Bay of Bengal. The beach has a lighthouse and it is very much functional, providing great solace to vessels out at sea during mists or sea storms and cyclones, which are quite frequent in Bay of Bengal. This beach is about 75 km away from Vijaywada and is basically close to the town of Machilipatnam town and is also known as the Machilipatnam beach. It happens to be one of the most popular beaches in the entire state of Andhra Pradesh and gets quite crowded during weekends and holidays. Nevertheless, a lot of fun can be had on the beach and the scenic beauty here is really amazing. The waters are clear and stunning but swimming is not allowed for the majority of the year now as the beach was heavily affected in the tsunami of 2004. If you are early, you will be able to see the fishermen go about their day’s business and bring in the fresh catch from the sea for the day. You will find there are some wonderful shacks and restaurants here which will sell mouthwatering sea food. If you want to go shopping, there are some beach stalls here that sell jute products and knickknacks made from sea shells and coconut coir. To reach the beach at Mypadu, you need to come to city of Nellore and from here, the beach is about 25 km away. It is one of the most stunning beaches of Andhra Pradesh and tourists from Vijaywada visit here often. The beach is famous for swimming and is very safe in that respect. The warm, sandy beach here is quite clean and perfect for sunbathing. You can simply lie down on the beach and enjoy the view while sipping refreshing coconut water. The beachside stalls sell finger- licking snacks, and the prawn fries here are extremely delicious. Speedboats have been newly introduced in the beach and so you can go for a ride on the waters as well and enjoy riding on the waves and feel the sea wind in your hair.
The Ramakrishna Beach happens to be one of the most famous beaches in the entire country, and it is located closer to Vizag. It is very popular and quite crowded, even on weekdays at times. The beach gets its names from the Ramkrishna Mission and the temple of Goddess Kali, which is located right across the road. Naturally, a number of devotees come here as well and it is both a tourist and a pilgrimage destination of sorts. The time around Kali Puja and Diwali is hence, especially crowded but it is also quite an experience to witness this amazing humanity which is full of joy, with the sea as the backdrop. While the beach is safe for swimming, certain sections of the beach have been marked dangerous as there are rocky outcrops jutting out in the sea. The beach is famous for eateries and restaurants and you will have no trouble quenching your thirst and hunger pangs with refreshing drinks and sea food. The high point here is Dolphin’s Nose, a high rock, so named because of its shape. It offers great view of the sea around.
The famous Rushikonda Beach is located about 8 km away from the main city of Vishakhapatnam. It was always a popular destination but had recently become even more so since the state tourism department had started promoting water sports here. Some of the most popular activities here are speedboating, water skiing and wind surfing. The beach is wonderful and you will find great spots for photography. There are also a number of budget accommodations at Vishakhapatnam and its outskirts but not many are here by the beach. It is best to get your own cab or transport while coming here.
Traveling from Vijaywada to Suryalanka beach is quite easy but one has to first travel to Bapatla, which is about 50 km away from Guntur city. This beach is not very crowded by tourists outside the state and in fact, mostly remains secluded. Perhaps one of the reasons is that there are no conventional touristy things to be done here but because of this very reason, one gets to enjoy the beauty of the beach and take in the surroundings without feeling rushed or congested. This is a great getaway for couples as well. Or, you can set up your own net and play volleyball or badminton by the beach.
Located near the Kavali town of Nellore district, this is another hidden gem in Andhra Pradesh. If you are a nature lover and want to enjoy the beauty of the beach away from the cacophony of the tourists, then this is where you should be. Apart from religious festivals like Karthika Pournami, when the locals come to take a dip in the waters and offer their prayers, the beach mostly remains empty and you can have the run! You can also go for swimming here. The Kavali town is small and you can pick up some handmade household items from here at very inexpensive rates.
To visit this little known beach, you have to travel to Kankinada from Vijaywada. Kankinada is about 5 km away from the beach itself and because of its somewhat remote location, not many people come here. However, it is a great place for a daytrip and for having a lovely picnic by the sea. There are some parks in the vicinity and some eateries have recently come up too, and so it is a good place to spend a day with your family, within a very modest budget. Swimming here is very safe and the locals do it all the time. You can also join the local boys for a game of cricket or football by the beach!
The Vodarevu Beach is a very well known beach in Andhra Pradesh and it is about 6 km away from the town of Chirala, which in turn is about 100 km from Vijaywada. Nevertheless, this beach is mostly frequented by locals within the state. The coconut groves here are lovely and you will have a lovely time walking on the warm, yellow sand. The sunrise and sunset from here are mesmerizing and you will have lovely moments to capture on your camera. As the beach is right by a fishing village, you will see plenty of fishing boats come and go in the mornings and evenings and it is quite an interesting experience to watch their activities first hand. You will also witness fish buyers and sellers come here to trade the fish. The beach could get a bit noisy at that time but not for long and it is not something you get to see every day. Some of the fishing boats also give rides to the visitors into the sea, though be sure to negotiate the rates first.
