1. Meherangarh Fort

Begin your trip by exploring the fascinating sights at the Meherangarh Fort, one of the largest forts in the country. This magnificent structure in red sandstone was built around 1460 A.D. by Rao Jodha. It towers almost 100 feet above the city and extends miles into the distant horizon. Take a walk to the top of the fort for stunning views of the sky and a cityscape dotted with blue houses. The fort also houses a museum containing splendid artwork and artefacts. Winter is the best season to visit Jodhpur’s Meherangarh fort to witness many festivals organized here. The Rajasthan International Folk Festival is held in October each year and the World Sufi Spirit Festival in February. 

2. Jaswant Thada

A short walk away from the Mehrangarh Fort is a beautiful monument called Jaswant Thada. The memorial is a vision in white marble built in the memory of Maharaja Jaswant Singh II in 1899 AD. Jaswant Thada is primarily a group of cenotaphs, with the main monument containing portraits of various Rathore rulers. The monument, – set amid beautifully-carved gazebos, a lovely multi-level garden, and a tranquil pond – is the perfect setting for a day out with family. 

3. Culture and Retail Therapy in the Old City

Make your way to the Old City if you’re looking for buzzing culture and glimpses of everyday life! Sadar Market and the Clock Tower are popular tourist destinations within the Old City. Tourists can expect to find pretty much anything within the organized chaos of the market – from pottery, spices, handicrafts, sarees to delicious street food! Winter is the best time to visit Jodhpur’s colourful markets and shop to your heart’s content. It’s best to avoid outdoor exploration in the summer when the minimum temperature is 33 °C! 4. Umaid Bhawan Palace

Step into supreme luxury at the splendid Umaid Bhavan Palace, one of the most popular places to visit in Jodhpur. The palace is named after Maharaja Umaid Singh, grandfather to Gaj Singh, the current owner of the palace. Umaid Bhawan Palace houses 347 rooms and several beautiful galleries! The Taj Group of Hotels operates a section of the palace. The display of royal vintage cars is one of the most popular attractions at the Palace.

5. Mandore Gardens

The breath-taking Mandore Gardens are perfect for soaking in some natural beauty as well as fascinating historical monuments. The gardens have a bit of everything in them – a hall dedicated to Rajput heroes, cenotaphs, old temples, statues, shrines, stunning greenery, and hordes of langurs. One can also walk up a hill for magical views of the ruins of old Mandore. 

6. Osian Temples

Winter is the best season to visit Jodhpur not only for walks around the city but also for short explorations outside it. Osian is a desert town located 65 km from Jodhpur. It contains a cluster of 15 beautiful Hindu and Jain temples dating back to the 7th and 8th centuries. The Sun Temple at Osian is magnificent and one of the most popular attractions here.

7. Bishnoi Village

Take advantage of the good weather to visit a quaint village called Bishnoi. The village is perfect for culture enthusiasts looking to experience a slice of daily life in a Jodhpur village. Some of the activities organized in Bishnoi are desert excursions, camel rides, and village walks. October to March is the best time to visit Jodhpur’s Bishnoi village.

8. Balsamand Lake

For those looking for a quiet escape, the best time to visit Jodhpur is in the monsoons, when the tourist season hasn’t kicked in. And travellers craving even more solitude should drive 5 kilometres from Jodhpur to the stunning Balsamand Lake. The enchanting waters of the lake are set amid lush greenery that takes on a new life during the rains. Balsamand Lake offers you the ideal setting for some quiet time and tranquillity.

9. Chand Baori

While in Jodhpur, don’t miss visiting the famous Chand Baori, a beautiful stepwell built in the 9th century. One of the world’s largest wells, the Chand Baori stepwell has 13 floors and is 64 feet deep! 

10. Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park

The Rao Jodha Desert Rock Park was created to revive and rejuvenate the ecology of the rock-strewn landscape in Jodhpur. It contains over 80 plant species from the Thar Desert in Rajasthan.
