The mesmerizing cantonment town of Kasauli in the beautiful state of Himachal Pradesh is a perfect place for nature lovers. Kasauli is a small town in the south-west part of Himachal and is on the relatively lower levels of Himalayas. The summer season here starts in March and continues till June. The days during these months remain pleasantly warm and the nights are cool. The temperature varies between a minimum of 14°C and a maximum of 27°C, making it extremely favourable for exploring the tourist attractions in the town. The beautiful summer season here is also perfect for trekking, nature walks, and bird watching. The Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival is an annual festival that takes place in Kasauli in the months of March and April. If you plan to visit Kasauli in March you should not miss this festival. The Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival is a mecca for music lovers interested in listening to a diverse pool of well-established and upcoming talent. The festival has delivered some of the most exceptional live performances — from the mesmerizing Usha Uthup, Shilpa Rao, Leslie Lewis, Rabbi Shergill to the exuberant Sonam Kalra and Kutle Khan Sufi Collective.

Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival is a music festival with a beautiful heart, as the memorable weekender aims to financially support critically ill children with heart disorders of Little Hearts for their surgery. 

Kasauli in Winter (October to February)

With the onset of winter in October, Kasauli attracts tourists in large numbers. The temperature ranges between 4°C and 19°C and Kasauli experience chilly but enjoyable winters. During peak winters, the mesmerizing hill-station of Kasauli also receives some rainfall, which makes this place look even more bewitching. If you want to immerse yourself in the festive spirit, then you can visit Kasauli during winters when the whole place is busy preparing for the hearty festival of Lohri. Since Kasauli is close to Punjab, Lohri here is celebrated with great energy and enthusiasm. The festival is celebrated in the month of January. Locals gather together to celebrate the harvest season with a bonfire, sacred offerings and enjoy the colourful folk dance and music.

Kasauli in Monsoon (July- September)

If you want to experience Kasauli’s raw beauty, then monsoon is the best season to visit Kasauli. It begins in July and lasts until September. Although the town receives an average annual rainfall of about 1600 mm, they are intermittent and scanty. The floating clouds on the hilly terrain create magical vistas making this place perfect for long nature walks and treks. If you happen to be here in July, then you should also attend the Sari Festival held every year in Akri near Kasauli. People from near and far come to witness the buffalo fighting held during this festival. Lots of customary activities and events are held during this period. This is also an interesting festival to experience and explore the culture and ethos of Kasauli.

How to Reach Kasauli

Kasauli is situated at a distance of 65 km from Chandigarh and 40 km from Kalka. The best way to reach Kasauli is through Chandigarh or Kalka. Kalka has the nearest broad gauge railway station and Chandigarh has the nearest airport. New Delhi has the nearest international airport and is located just 280 km from Kasauli. The road connectivity to Kasauli is very good and buses and taxis are very easily available from nearby places to reach here.

By flight: Chandigarh Airport is the nearest airport to Kasauli. Flights from every major city fly to Chandigarh. Once in Chandigarh, you can either take a bus or hire a cab to take you to Kasauli.

By bus: The Himachal Pradesh State Transport Corporation runs several buses between Kasauli and the other cities in the state and also nearby cities like Chandigarh. The bus journey might seem tedious considering we would be going uphill, the breathtaking scenery takes all the tiredness away.

By train: The Indian Railways offer a number of express trains to reach Kalka from other parts of India including Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. You can easily available this route too. A train ride through the hills of Himachal pradesh is a rejuvenating experience in itself.
