Delhi Comedy Festival

The new decade is upon us, and we know what that usually means! Resolutions, reflections, New Year’s Eve parties, or quiet nights at home. Different strokes for different folks. But if there were a universal wish for 2020, unending laughter would be high on everyone’s list. It’s proverbially the best medicine, cheaper than therapy, and a great way to welcome the year!

Start the New Year with cheer and high spirits at the Delhi Comedy Festival from 3rd January to 5th January 2020. This amazing laughter fest will feature more than 30 homegrown artists over 3 days, including Anirban Dasgupta, Prashasti Singh, Shreeja Chaturvedi, Devesh Dixit, and Sonali Thakker. The opening night gala of the Delhi Comedy Festival will take place at Kamani Auditorium, with multiple shows taking place after at NCUI and other venues across the city.

6 Amazing Artists to Watch Out For

Anirban Dasgupta

Anirban Dasgupta is an engineer-turned comedian who has made a career from ‘hasty decisions.’ Originally from Kolkata, Anirban was one of the founders of ‘Comedified’ – a group that was the first to establish a vibrant comedy scene in the city. Anirban sketches jokes and puns around experiences from his personal life, the everyday theatre of his inter-community marriage, stories from the stage, current affairs, corporate life, politics, and the many difficulties of being a Bengali.

In 2018, Anirban released ‘Take It Easy’, an Amazon Prime Special that makes digs at the internet era and the business of taking offense. He also narrates anecdotes and experiences from his hometown, Kolkata. This is an act you shouldn’t miss at the Delhi Comedy Festival.

Sonali Thakker

Also performing at Delhi Comedy Festival 2020 is Sonali Thakker. Sonali Thakker’s journey in stand-up comedy has been an interesting one. It began with a stint in Chartered Accountancy but this Gujarati girl was having none of it. She discovered a love for stand-up comedy while she waited for those CA Exam results. Sonali performed at various open mics while pursuing freelancing writing projects at the same time. She now performs stand-up comedy full-time – shattering glass ceilings for someone who comes from a typical Gujarati family where nobody’s had a career in the creative field before.

Sonali doesn’t put up her videos on YouTube since she prefers live performances any day. She likes the pulse and element of surprise in a live show – where the audience comes for the love of comedy and not only for their favorite artist. While that might lead to a lower turnout, she’s more than alright with that. Sonali is a huge fan of Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter which she believes are great enablers for comedians and artists across the board. Sonali’s acts cover everything from the crazy world of dating to superstition. She has performed regularly at Canvas Laugh Club Delhi and Mumbai, as well as college, corporate, and charity events in Mumbai. Sonali also featured in the web series ‘Pushpavalli’ and performed at the acclaimed Melbourne International Comedy Festival 2019.

Shreeja Chaturvedi

Nobody does deadpan humor better than the inimitable Shreeja Chaturvedi. Shreeja is an artist from Mumbai who is known for delivering the funniest punchlines with a straight face. However, what her face does not betray in emotion is more than compensated by her wildly animated hands. She’s immensely popular in the Mumbai circuit and considers herself a full-time comedian, somewhat. Shreeja dreams of a day when crowds chant her name like an anthem, as she flies into the audience like a rock star after landing a deadly punchline. We hope the audience make it happen for her at the Delhi Comedy Festival!

Prashasti Singh

One of the top comics on Amazon Prime’s ‘Comicstaan’, Prashasti Singh is a stand-up comic, actor, improviser, and writer extraordinaire! Prashasti has performed shows across the country ever since the popular reality show wrapped up. She found humor and a career-calling in comedy after an MBA from IIM Lucknow and a four-year career at a television company. Prashasti has also featured on a show called ‘Kiski Sarkar’, where she hosts a segment called Baath Cheat.

Devesh Dixit

Devesh Dixit is a Delhi-based stand-up comedian whose YouTube videos have a huge fan following. His comedic acts are inspired by his own life and his everlasting muse – the madness and magic of the capital city, Delhi. From road rage, getting married, to seemingly harmless Delhi conversations such as ‘Which college are you from?’ – Devesh’s hilarious, angst-ridden accounts of his experiences will have everyone off their seats at the Delhi Comedy Festival.

Pratyush Chaubey

Pratyush Chaubey is a Software Engineer-turned comedian from Uttar Pradesh. He found a career in stand-up after the tragi-comic saga that was his life in engineering. Pratyush decided to become a comedian as a way of giving back to society. His acts cover all the humorous and humiliating stories from the engineering world he left behind. Pratyush’s hilarious takes on leaving a corporate job to pursue his dreams find resonance with audiences across the county.
