Exploring Ayodhya During Ram Navami

Every year, a grand celebration takes place to mark the birth of Lord Ram, which falls on the ninth day of the Navratri festival. This Hindu observance is held during the month of Chaitra and is regarded as one of the five holiest festivals in Hinduism. The Ram Navami Mela draws thousands of devotees to pay their respects and participate in the festivities.

One of the fair’s highlights is the elaborate Ram-Leela performance that reenacts the story of Lord Ram’s life. Temples throughout the city are beautifully adorned for the occasion, adding to the splendour of the celebration. The birthplace of Lord Ram, Ayodhya, becomes a hub of jubilant celebrations on this day as devotees visit the city to pay homage and participate in the festivities with the utmost enthusiasm and devotion.

History and Significance Behind Ram Navmi

Ram Navami find its roots in the epic tale of Ramayana, considered one of the most followed stories in Hindu history, also known as “Vratha Katha.” According to legend, King Dashratha, along with his wives, performed a Yagna puja ritual seeking the birth of sons, following the advice of the sage Vashishth.

Upon completion of the Yagna, the queens were given a bowl of blessed kheer by Lord Yajna. After consuming the kheer, the queens became pregnant. They gave birth to Lord Shatrughana and Lord Lakshmana (Sumitra), Lord Bharta (Kaikeyi), and Lord Rama (Kausalya) on the ninth day of the Chaitra month. Since then, the birth anniversary of Lord Rama has been celebrated with much passion and devotion by Hindus worldwide.
