These haunted places add a pinch of mystery to the otherwise fun and energetic atmosphere of the city. So, here’s looking at some of the most haunted places in Bangalore which are not for the faint of heart.

The Kalpalli Cemetery

Cemeteries give a lot of people the creeps. But, the Kalpalli cemetery in Bangalore can make a chill run down your spine. The cemetery is located near the Old Madras Road, and several passersby have reported the sighting of a man near the graves at ungodly hours. Besides, many people have also reported the presence of paranormal activity while passing by the cemetery. There have also been incidents in which people have spotted a man lurking around the grave at night who disappears on being approached. People who have visited the grave have reported a heaviness in the air, which is compounded near some graves. This thickness in the air has left many visitors breathless. According to these visitors, you can feel eyes on your back as you walk through the cemetery. The paranormal activity at the Kalpalli cemetery is so petrifying that even the guards don’t go near the graves after sunset.

Terra Vera

This haunted house in Bangalore is, without a doubt, one of the scariest places in the city. The story behind this scary house located on St. Marks Road in Bangalore goes back to the year 2002. The colonial house was built by EJ Vaj in 1943 and he had two daughters Dolce and Vera. Dolce, who was a piano teacher, was brutally murdered by an attacker who could not be identified. After she was stabbed to death, the attacker buried her body on the premises. After the murder of her sister in the house, Vera moved out due to a property feud and left behind all the valuables which included a vintage car and furniture. The house was left abandoned and there have been various instances that point toward the presence of an evil spirit. People have reportedly seen inverted crosses and have heard eerie sounds in the house. In fact, people who tried to go inside the house to click pictures of the abandoned furniture and the vintage car came back with dead batteries and unusable images. The house was eventually demolished but, eerie sightings have continued to be spotted on the land where the house once stood.

The Call Center at M.G Road

Many leading call centers of the country are based out of the IT Hub of India, Bangalore. But, speaking of the call centers of Bangalore, there is one at M.G Road that has given people the creeps. As the story goes by, several years back, a woman was hit by a car near this call center at M.G Road. The driver who hit her was under the influence of alcohol and he fled the scene and left the woman screaming for help on the road who eventually succumbed to her injuries. It has been reported that the screams of the woman can be heard on the fateful night every year.

Victoria Hospital

Although the hospital has been in the city for years, it earned the reputation of being haunted only a few years ago. The hospital is located near the City Market on Fort Road and there have been multiple reports of paranormal activities in the building. The hospital is believed to be haunted by the spirit of a woman who died at the hospital several years back. Ever since then, many people have reported seeing strange incidents taking place in the morgue of the hospital. Some people have even reported seeing a white spirit lurking around the trees on the hospital premises. But the interesting thing about this hospital is that unlike most haunted places, the ghost here does not torment people. It just harmlessly steals food from them. Many people, including the hospital staff, have seen food packets go missing from the building. On several different occasions though, the security guards of the hospital have seen a different spirit roaming around in the hospital and crying out loud at night.

Bangalore International Airport

Airports are extremely well-lit and bustling with people at any given time during the day. Thus, it is beyond anyone’s expectations to see a ghost or a ghost-like image at an airport. But, at the Bangalore International airport, people have witnessed the unimaginable at various instances. The Kempegowda International airport is reportedly home to a spirit of a woman clad in a white saree. Many including taxi drivers, passengers, even pilots have supposedly seen a woman in a white saree who disappears on being approached. The reports of these sightings could have been a hoax to many, but the infrared camera at the airport has captured the image of the spirit, and people believe that she indeed haunts the place, now. In fact, the spirit was once spotted by a pilot drifting on the runway. On a different occasion, the ground staff saw her in the cargo section of BIAL. In addition to these sightings, there have also been rumors about the presence of a headless ghost. This ghost has been reportedly seen around the escalators of BIAL.

National Highway 4

Maybe not as frequent as the cemeteries but, highways have been associated with ghost stories quite often. Several passengers have narrated identical stories of their eerie experience on the highway. People have reported that they gave a lift to a pretty girl clad in white on the highway which sounds like a story straight out of a show, after boarding the vehicle, she disappears. It doesn’t end there though, she makes a double visit, for her amusement probably, to laugh hysterically at the confused drivers. It is because of these incidents that people don’t give lifts on the infamous Mumbai -Bangalore- Kolar – Chennai highway.

The Hoskote Route

There have been several instances when motorists have seen spirits on the Hoskote route. According to a popular urban legend, an auto driver on this route was stopped by an old lady, asking for a lift. The lady begged for the lift as she did not have money to pay. The driver agreed, but when he asked her to get into the auto, she asked him to come out and help her get in since she was physically challenged. The driver refused to step out of his auto and then suddenly, the old woman burst out into a hysterical laugh. She told the driver that if he had stepped out of the auto, he would have been murdered. She also told him that it was due to the idols and other holy things of worship in the auto that she could not step inside the auto. Although the story sounds like a chuckle to many, the presence of graveyards on both sides of the road makes some people believe in the presence of spirits on the route.

The Banyan Tree in Tiptur

As per Hindu mythology, there are certain types of trees in which the evil spirits reside. Banyan trees are amongst these trees. About 150 kilometers from Bangalore stood a large Banyan tree in Tiptur and it was believed that the tree brought a lot of misfortune to them. A few years back, the locals of the area cut down the tree under the supervision of several priests. Although the tree is not there anymore, people still report feeling its presence in the area and the bad luck that surrounded it.

Naale Baa

This is not exactly a haunted place in the city, but there was a horrific phenomenon that took place in Bangalore in the late 90s. It was believed that a supernatural entity would knock on the doors. Nobody would open the door since no one wanted to invite evil into their house. So, to protect themselves from the demon, people would write ‘Naale Baa’ (come back tomorrow) outside their homes. This was a practice that people followed every single day to protect themselves from demons.

Naale Baa

The Park

A couple of years in the past, there existed a park in Bangalore that was the home of a spirit who could take human forms. According to one incident, there were three children playing in the park one day when one of them left, and his two friends stayed behind. After a while, the other two saw their friend sitting on a bench several meters away. They called out to him and asked him to join them. It’s only later that they got to know that their friend was at home and they were playing in the park with the spirit who had taken the form of their friend, this wouldn’t be the last time that something like this happened. Because of the frequency of these incidents, the park was demolished and turned into a residential complex, and that has evidently put a stop to the ghost returning in human forms.
