Delhi, being the political capital of India, can often get quite hectic and it feels good once in a while to go out family for picnics. While it might not always be possible to go for long vacations, one can definitely find sometime out to go for weekend getaways or even a daytrip from time to time and there are quite a few spots in and around Delhi which will provide the ideal spot. 1. Nehru Park

Nehru Park is really like a breath of fresh air in the congested city of Delhi. The park is spread over 80 acres and it is located in the Panchsheel area and you will be soon mesmerized by the greenery of the park once you get here. The spring season sees a riot of colors as the flowers start to bloom and there is also a great snacks bar where you can sit and enjoy.

2. Deer Park

While it seems quite impossible, there really is such a park in the very heart of Delhi and it is often referred to as the “lungs of Delhi”. The park is a paradise for animal lovers and one can spot quite a variety of deer here, which is very exciting for the children. There are green lawns to sit around and you will love the landscaping around. The birds constantly chirp from the nearby trees and it makes for a heavenly surrounding.

3. India Gate Lawns

The magnificent India Gate is a sight to behold in itself and the lawns around are the perfect spot for a day picnic. There are a lot of entertainments options here like enjoying pony and camel rides, going on small rides and swings and of course, gorge on great snacks sold by the vendors. The area here is comparatively free from traffic so it is very relaxing.

4. National Rose Garden

Delhi winters will not seem so harsh and cold once you have visited the National Rose Garden. The best time to visit is during the months of December to January and you can hear migratory birds chirping from the trees. It is a rare sight and those who love plants and flowers keep coming back year after year.

5. National Zoological Park

There can be nothing better than spending the day at the zoo and even adults become like children when they are here. The zoo in Delhi was opened in 1959 and since then it has always received its fair share of visitors. 6. Lodhi Gardens

As the name suggests, the gardens were established during the Lodhi dynasty and the monument is one of the most striking architectural wonders of the city. The tombs have been beautifully maintained over the years and although located in the heart of the city, it has none of the traffic chaos when you walk inside. 7. Asola Bhatti Wildlife Sanctuary

It might be quite striking to find out that there is a wildlife sanctuary just on the southern borders of Delhi but it is one of the best getaways for the city people. There are as many as five lakes in the garden and so it is great place to visit even during summers as you will enjoy coolness and freshness here. Carry your own meal packs with you and you have the perfect location for a picnic.

8. Badhkal Lake

Badhkal Lake is located near Faridabad which is 32 km from Delhi and if you have some time on your hands, you can visit this place for a wonderful weekend getaway. The lake is a favorite haunt for migratory birds during the winters and the scenic locale of the place will simply leave you speechless. You can see small hills in the distance and the drive leading up to the park is also quite captivating because of the views.

9. Damdama Lake

14. Siliserh Lake Palace

Located in Alwar, this palace situated within a lake is a popular tourist spot and a great place to enjoy a long drive. The landscaped grounds around here are beautiful and you will find yourself one with nature.
