Rameshwaram Bird Sanctuary
- We will then take a drive to the Rameshwaram Bird Sanctuary which is spread over an area of around 9 square kilometres and is home to a wide variety of bird species, both migratory and resident. Some of the common bird species found in this sanctuary include Flamingos, Painted Storks, Spoonbills, Pelicans, and many species of ducks and waders.
- The best time to visit the Rameshwaram Bird Sanctuary is from November to February when many migratory birds visit this sanctuary.
APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial
- The APJ Abdul Kalam Memorial is a memorial dedicated to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, the former President of India, who was born and raised in Rameshwaram. The memorial is located on the island of Rameshwaram in Tamil Nadu, India, and is a popular tourist attraction in the region.
- The memorial is built at the site where Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was laid to rest following his demise in 2015. The memorial is designed in a unique way to resemble a rocket, which is a nod to Dr. Kalam’s contribution to India’s space program. The entrance to the memorial is designed to resemble a spacecraft, and the inside of the memorial has photographs, videos, and displays that showcase Dr. Kalam’s life, achievements, and his vision for India.
Ramanathaswamy temple
- Ramanathaswamy temple. Next we will visit the famous temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. As per legend Lord Rama visited here to pray to Lord Shiva to atone for sins committed during the great war of Ramayana. The temple dates back to the 12th century and its long corridor is adorned with aesthetically carved pillars. We will pay our respects to the main deity who is worshipped here in the form of 2 lingams. One lingam is made of sand and was made by Lady Sita while the other was brought from mount Kailash by Hanuman.
