Find Best Hotels In Pune

Pune is known for its fast-paced life that people are drawn to. Irrespective of the many mainstream food joints that crowd the city, street food in Pune still remains the pulse of the city, its underbelly.

In this article, we  will compile a list of all the tasty street delicacies that you can find in Pune so you don’t miss out on the best-known secret of this city.

Best Street Delicacies in Pune

Pune is littered with a variety of street food. The craze has reached an extent where it is almost impossible to try out everything that’s on offer, such is the popularity and the number. To narrow down your search, given below are some of the best places to try all the tasty street delicacies in Pune. Try and not leave anything out during your visit here.

JJ Garden Vada Pav

Vada pavs are the most sought out street food in Pune. You might have eaten vada pavs in Mumbai or in other places in Maharashtra, but nothing beats the vada pavs that you find in Pune. The most popular vada pav place is the JJ Garden Vada Pav. If you are here, then a visit to the JJ Garden Vada Pav Pune is a must. Here you will find freshly served vada pav with their tasteful innovations, like Cheese Vada Pav, Masala Vada Pav, and the classic Mumbai Vada Pav. There are plenty of other good vada pav stalls too. For instance, the Garden Vada Pav Centre at Buttee street, the Joshi Vade Wale stall, and the unnamed stalls at Fatima Nagar.

Badekar Misal

Puneri Misal Pav is something to die. If you want the original Maharashtrian misal pav, then Badekar Misal is the place to go to. The misal served with hot pavs is a must try. If you are wondering what Misal is, it is a dish made out of semi curried lentils served with crunchy fries. If you are in Pune, then Misal Pav from Badekar will be  a one-way ticket to food heaven.

This shop is the only branch in the whole of Maharashtra and is usually very crowded throughout the day. Students from schools, colleges, and coaching centres along with the working population of Pune come here for its Misal Pav.

Tiranga Non-Veg

While discussing the best street food in Pune, there is no way that Tiranga Non-Veg can be left out. The Biryanis served here are extremely popular and the place itself is a foodies beehive. This tiny place in Kothrud Khau Galli Pune is especially crowded on the weekends, and the crowd only seems to be increasing. A family-owned business, it is run by the second generation men these days, and its popularity hasn’t diminished one bit.

If you are a non-veg or a biryani lover, then you must try this amazing street food place in Pune. Head there anytime of the day and you will still find your biryani fresh and delicious.

Vaishali Street Food

Vaishali is an all-in-one street restaurant where you will find a wide range of tasty dishes. From the popular sev puri and dahi puri to dosas and other types of fast food, Vaishali offers a menu brimming with mouth-watering dishes. This small place is usually very crowded with students, local workers, and tourists,  jostling each other to get a bite of their favourite dishes.

This popular street food joint is so loved that people have nicknamed it the Best SPDP Centre, short for Sev Puri and Dahi Puri. Apart from Puris, the place is also known for its Pav Bhaji, and its special sabudana Vada pav. If you are in Pune, then you must try the food at Vaishali at least once.

Sujata Mastani

Mastani is a delicious combination of milk, ice cream, and loads of dry fruits and kesar. This coma-inducing dish can sit quite heavy in your stomach, it is recommended that you  don’t eat a lot beforehand.

Now that you know what a mastani is, you should know where to eat it, and that place is Sujata Mastani. It was established fifty years ago and has been on a meteoric rise ever since.  Sujata Mastani has many branches around the city today, and the grapevine tells us that more stalls are coming up. Hurray!

Marz-O Rin

Located on the main street of MG Road, Marz-O Rin is an established name. Even though the name sounds like a Biryani house, the place is a cafeteria which means they don’t exclusively serve one item. Among the many delicious foods that are served here, coffee, cheese macaroni and cheese sandwich are the most popular items, student-friendly and tasty tid-bites.

This street food joint in Pune might not sound like a street stall at all, but it is a legitimate place to enjoy these street delicacies. Easy to find, easy on the pocket, and extremely tasty, Marz-O Rin is one of the best places in Pune to enjoy the street food at.

Om Jai Shankar

Pani puri is an Indian street delicacy loved by everyone in this country. But if you haven’t tried the Pani Puri at Om Jai Shankar, Pune, then you haven’t tried real Pani Puri at all. Om Jai Shankar is extremely popular for its mouth-watering Pani Puri, Pav Bhaji, Bhel Puri, and other varieties of Chaat.

The stall is situated in one of the busiest streets of Pune and remains crowded, as a result, most of the time. No fret, as there are two branches of this stall, so you can visit either to get the best of the Pani Puri experience in, I will go as far to say the entire country, and it’s still not an exaggeration. Do not forget to visit Om Jai Shankar during your stay in Pune.

Chaitanya

The street food varieties in Pune have bowled people over. One such amazing street food place is Chaitanya’s. This place is widely famous for its finger-licking Aloo Parathas served with dahi, chutney, and salad. The Aloo Parathas here are so famous that the hard-core Punjabis come here to enjoy this tasty dish, and you know what that means, it has to be the best!

You can find Chaitanya street food joint on the Fergusson College Road, swarming with people. It was established almost a decade ago, and is still going strong. Head to Chaitanya’s to not only taste the popular Aloo Parathas, but  several other varieties of Parathas that you might just find here.

Burger King

Definitely not the chain you are thinking of. This Burger King is a small shop that serves the most amazing burgers you will ever eat. The size and strength of the burger will not only fill you up, but will nudge you into eating one more. But, you might have to wait a long time to get your burger as the place is awfully busy. This burger joint is extremely easy to locate. It is situated on the MG road and there is another branch in Koregaon Park. If burgers are your thing, then the burgers from this place are something that you must try at least once.

Ravi Famous Dosa Centre

Everybody loves the South Indian dish dosa. But I don’t think that there is any South Indian place that could serve dosa as well as the Ravi Dosa Centre. With its economical price and a distinct taste, this place is very popular among the students around the place, and many people from various parts of Pune come here to hangout and enjoy the lovely dosas.

Every dosa on the menu is easy on the pocket, and even the costliest dosa on the menu doesn’t charge you much. The dosas are unparalleled in their taste. Get over to Ravi’s and enjoy the mouth-watering street dosas.

Kayani Bakery

The city of Pune doesn’t hold back. There is something for everyone, the Kayani Bakery is the ‘it’ place for everyone with a sweet-tooth. The hot and fresh cakes baked here have amassed some die-hard fans, they buy dozens of them in a single go.

This bakery opens around 4 in the evening and is thronged by people till it closes. Many wait near the shop even before it opens, hoping to get the freshest of the cakes. If you too love sweets, then you should definitely try the Shrew berry biscuits and the Mawa Cake that are a speciality of this bakery.

No matter who you are and what type of food you like, you will get what your heart desires in Pune. The street stalls, the crowded restaurants, and the khau gallis in Pune are a major attraction of the city. Whether you are living in Pune or just visiting it, the places I have listed above are the ones where you can find the best street food in Pune. Your tongue will find itself indebted!
