Many people, including the local fishermen, come here before commencing a business to seek blessings. The Santhome Basilica church in Chennai was constructed between the 14th and 15th centuries. The tomb of Saint Thomas lies below the church. Initially built in the Neo-Gothic architecture style, it was later renovated under British rule. The 210 feet tall white facade of this church is one of the top sightseeing in Chennai. Inside the church, you can find several paintings, frescoes and a museum.
If you want to travel South of the country to celebrate Easter, you can go “Our Lady of Dolours” church. Spread over a whopping 2500 square feet of land, the Our Lady of Dolours church has been built with beautiful Gothic architecture. Once inside, you can view various murals of the holy trinity. When Pope John Paul the second visited India in 1986, he visited this church and stood on the pulpit and the throne. The height of the front towers of this church is 146 ft and 260 ft, respectively.
