Memorial Park Golf Course is one of the oldest and best municipal courses in the US. This course is spread over 600 acres and attracts around 60,000 patrons every year. Initially built in 1936, it was a 9-hole course with sand greens designed by the legendary golf course architect John Bredemus. Great golfers, namely Arnold Palmer, Jimmy Demarat, and Jack Niklaus, had played in this 9-hole course that was stated as the “greatest golf course ever” by the designer himself.
This course hosted Houston Open from 1951 to 1963. The golf course was renovated by Tom Doak that was expanded and converted into an 18-hole facility with chipping greens. It was designed to preserve the historical quality while ensuring proper maintenance for the future.
Memorial Park Golf Course is reasonably priced. In addition, the facility does not have many water features and thus is liked by amateur golfers.
