It’s true, you can take alcohol to-go on the San Antonio River Walk. There’s a few restrictions, like it can only be in a plastic container, you cannot take your drink to the street above, and you must be over the age of 21. Most restaurants and bars will allow you to take your drink out if you meet these requirements, so have fun with it! Just not too much fun. Here’s some of our suggestions:

Steeped in lore and tales of Texan bravery and heroics, The Alamo can easily put into perspective the sacrifice and struggle that built the city into what it is today. Often overlooked as a historical staple of San Antonio’s history, and controversy, San Antonio Missions National Historical Park is nothing if not visually stunning and humbling. It also carries a World Heritage Designation and still operates a weekly Mass.

Focusing more on the natural, artistic, and cultural history of Texas and San Antonio, The Witte Museum hosts standing and rotating exhibits including a Dinosaur Gallery, Heritage Center, and currently features an exhibit focusing specifically on San Antonio’s famous “Fiesta” celebration from 1969. The Hill Country in Central and South Texas provides an experience that not a lot of people who are unfamiliar with the state and its unique geography understand. Rolling hills, steep bluffs, crystal clear river, swimming holes, and deep caves are scattered throughout the San Antonio area waiting to be explored.
