When I arrived, the lodging had no reservation for me despite my email confirmation. The guy at the front desk could see my name and some "past booking" [I've never been to Bryson City in my life, nor have I ever stayed at an Oyo property] but I had no room for my confirmed date. He had availability and got me a room, and took $5 off my $25 pet fee as an apology. He was the only thing saving me from blasting this property. The rooms are very shabby (though clean). I personally didn't need anything fancy, it had the amenities that matter to me: refrigerator & microwave. The back yard is on the river which was nice, but it hadn't been mowed in a while and the wet grass wasn't particularly pleasant to walk through. I was unimpressed with the shady motel guests chain-smoking in front of their rooms but that's no fault of the property. The motel is about a 10-15 minute drive to the downtown area.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay. I loved the esthetic of an old roadside motel. The vintage kitchenette was amazing. I will say, the little stove was difficult to use as all of the temperature markings for the stove top and oven were invisible. I managed to cook several meals by guessing at the desired temp but it was difficult. Now, if you're looking for a luxury experience this place is not for you but if you have an appreciation for vintage and well loved then this is it. The back porch and rocking chairs overlooking the river were amazing. We always felt safe, the room was clean and we will stay again. Hope that pool is open this summer and I can bring my grand babies for a few days.
