On April 4th, I had a family emergency and couldn’t make it to Moms Weekend with my twins at U of I. I was devastated. I tried again and again to cancel my hotel reservation through Hotels.com—even though I had travel insurance—but couldn’t get through. The booking number didn’t work, and after several chats, someone gave me a number that didn’t match anything on my itinerary. OYO’s automated system got me nowhere. Eventually, I reached the front desk at Eastland Suites Hotel & Conference Center by OYO in Urbana. I was overwhelmed and in tears. That’s when Ahmed picked up the phone. He was calm, kind, and patient. He told me not to cry, that he understood, and that he would take care of it. And he did—without hesitation, without blame, just pure compassion. I want to sincerely thank Ahmed for being the person I needed in that moment. His empathy and willingness to help meant more than he probably realizes. It’s not just that he helped with a reservation—it’s that he treated me like a human being going through something hard. I’ll never forget that. Thank you, Ahmed. We need more people like you in this world.
Stayed there just after July 4th. A big hotel probably constructed around 1980. Big place...like 300 rooms. Place was modernized. New carpet. Swimming pool for kids. Room was clean. Bedding was clean. Bathroom sink and shower were very clean. Had a freshly cooked breakfast instead of donuts, bread, pastries. Fresh scrambled eggs, sausage patties, pancakes. Big containers for milk. Plenty of parking. Overall, the hotel exceeded my expectations for a 2 star hotel. Gentleman at front desk was polite and helpful. Very close to 74
