Khuldabad – The Valley of Saints

Khuldabad, previously known as Rauza which means garden of paradise is a holy and spiritual city of Islamic saints. It is both a city, as well as a taluka under the Aurangabad District, of Maharashtra, India. During the 14th century, many saints resided in this city and therefore it is known as the Valley of Saints or the Abode of Eternity.

The city has a pleasant and temperate climate. Khuldabad is confined by a high fortified wall along with seven gates, built by Aurangzeb. These seven gates are Nagarkhana, Pangra, Landga, Mangalpeth, Kumbi Ali, Hamdadi and Azam Shahi. Khuldabad has 15 to 20 tombs and nearly 1400 plain sepulchres. At a distance of 4 miles from the city, the world-famous Ellora Caves are located as well.

It also has the tombs of Azam Shah and his spouse along with graves of 1,500 Sufi saints, making it a peaceful and serene destination. The Mausoleum of Burhan-Ud-din and Bani Begum’s Makbara are other key attractions along with Malik Ambar’s Tomb. The Bhadra Maruti Temple is also a popular place to visit in addition to Khan Jahan’s Lall Bagh.
