Manipala is famous world over as an industrious university town. Manipala was once a deserted area but Dr. T. M. A. Pai established Kasturba Medical College here in 1953 which is a part of the main Manipala university now.

From here Suvarna river can be viewed in all its glory and visitors are treated to a panoramic view of the Western Ghats, Eastern Ghats and the Arabian Sea. The sunrise and sunset look heavenly from here. This place is great for trekking enthusiasts as well. Another place worth visiting is Arbi Falls. Albeit a relatively small one, this fall situated at Arbi is a must visit nonetheless. The place is best for small picnics.
The Museum of Anatomy and Pathology is a must-visit for all. Skeletons of animals from small-sized reptiles to large mammals are all preserved here. This place has a large number of human specimens as well. People with a spiritual bent of mind can also visit the Venugopal temple in Manipala. The temple primarily worships Lord Krishna. The architecture here is inspired by the South Indian style of architecture and the calm and pleasant atmosphere makes the place worth visiting. Manipala Lake is near this temple and people can take a stroll there to enjoy the beauty of nature.
